Chief Nursing Officer - CNO

Connected Health Care has been engaged by a community- based hospital near Fort Smith, AR to find a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to oversee their critical access hospital on an executive level!

This is a charming, little community town in one of the most beautiful parts of Arkansas and located right in the Ouachita National Forest area. This beautiful little town is home to nearly 6,000 people and is a unique combination of location, commerce, beauty, and wilderness and somewhere that is a great place to live!


POSITION PURPOSE:

Under the general direction of the CEO, the Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for the development and maintenance of nursing service objectives, standards, and practice as they relate to Patient Care. In addition, this position is responsible for the planning, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating, reporting, budgeting, and management of facilities people, supplies, and equipment in a way that meaningful nursing service is established to render the optimum patient care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:

  • Ensures the vision, mission, and values of the organization are implemented and aligned within the hospital's culture.
  • Responsible for the quality of care provided to the patients at the Hospital, as measured by State and Federal surveys, audits, quality monitors and patient satisfaction surveys.
  • Responsible for the cost effectiveness of the departments, as measured by realizing a margin as budgeted, budgetary compliance, and achievement of specific financial and productivity goals.
  • Responsible for the morale of the employees under his/her supervision, as measured by observation, conversation, and employee surveys, and by the ability to recruit competent workers.
  • Responsible for effective communications with the public, physicians, and other departments within the hospital, and the employees supervised by the CNO. This position serves as one of the primary contacts between the hospital and the public, including effectively answering inquiries and questions about services and/or complaints.
  • Ensures that RNs and LPNs offer the best possible support to the physicians in their respective departments.
  • Provides support and assistance to medical staff officers, committee chairpersons and Governing Body, as required.
  • Prepares reports/surveys/statistics to be reported to the Governing Body, government agencies.
  • Serves as a member of professional staff committees as necessary.
  • Assists in utilizing information obtained via performance improvement activities to seek and act on opportunities to improve patient care processes.
  • Participates in problem solving, policy forming conferences as necessary. Maintains close coordination with all departments to insure continuity and collaboration of services.
  • Consistently demonstrates a professional, self-directed, mature, disciplined and tactful approach to department responsibilities.
  • Resolves staff concerns at the departmental level, utilizing the grievance process as required.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire safety, emergency management and infection prevention and control.
  • Effectively and consistently communicates administrative directive to staff and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
  • Ensure that staff is clinically competent and trained on their role in patient safety, performance improvement, and risk management.
  • Collaborate with human resources and other team members to select, on-board, orient, and provide coaching for direct reports.
  • Manage organizational leaderships in a manner which builds mutual trust and respect. Establish trusting and collaborative relationships.
  • Responsible for quality initiatives and strategic planning in nursing/patient care.
  • Actively engage in quality improvement activities.
  • Will be responsible for other duties as assigned by the CEO

EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Leadership skills in delegating, organizing, and educating coworkers and staff.
  • Ability to effectively solve problems and issues.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain proper levels of confidentiality.
  • Ability to make good judgments and quick decisions.
  • Ability to use empathy during social awareness and relationship management.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Current RN license in State of Arkansas or a Compact State License.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Chief Nursing Officer 
  • Current BLS
