Full Time and Part Time.  Days

SUMMARY:  Performs the functions of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in carrying out assignments as directed by the Nursing team.  Accountable for resident care performed while on duty.  Does related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   Some of the specific duties performed may vary by shift, depending on the individuals’ particular assignment on that day.  Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Gives complete A.M. or P.M. care to assigned residents including complete or partial bath, tub or shower bath, back rub, care of hair, nails, oral hygiene and bed making.
  • Assists residents with meals and feeding; Provides between meal nourishment and liquids; Records intakes and outputs; Performs incontinence care and maintains toileting schedule with documentation on appropriate records; Measures and records foley catheter drainage; Applies non-medicated powder/ointments; Gives routine cleansing enemas.
  •  Assists residents with dressing.
  • Takes and records temperatures and weights; Collects specimens for testing as per nursing staff.
  • Performs Range of Motion (ROM) on residents and applied prosthetics/splints; Performs ambulation with residents.
  •  Assists with admission and discharge of residents.
  • Assists in the provision of post-mortem care.
  • When assigned to personal laundry, will follow the personal care aide job description.
  • Participates in in-service education programs, attends all mandated and annual programs; Understands and complies with all legal and other requirements in the performance of duties; Reports willful or inadvertent potentially fraudulent activity to management or the Corporate Compliance Officer.
  • Carries out all duties in an ethical and honest manner.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS - 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Must have successful completion of a New York State approved 100-Hour Nurse Aide Training Program and have passed the Competency Evaluation Program (CEP) –or-- holds a current Nurse Aide Training Program certification from another state and applies for immediate reciprocity.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: New York’s Certified Nurse Aides (CNA) must meet training, examination, and maintain current and active certification requirements set by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other associates of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.  Per the Jennie B. Richmond Nursing Home:  Safe Patient Handling Program Policy, the associate must have the ability to  lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
