Job Summary

A Certified Nursing Assistant’s primary responsibility is to assist patients with their daily activities. Your daily responsibilities will be to deliver direct care to patients (bathing, toileting, feeding, grooming, etc.) as directed by the RN or LPN in charge. Your role will be to maintain patient comfort and safety. You’ll also need to follow all departmental policies and procedures as well as safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Completion of Resident ADL’s such as assistance with Eating, Bathing, Dressing and incontinence care of Residents
  • Collecting information about conditions and treatment plans from caregivers, nurses, and doctors
  • Observing patients for bruises and other injuries/wounds
  • Turning or repositioning patients who are bedridden
  • Lifting patients into beds, wheelchairs, or exam tables
  • Cleaning and sanitizing patient areas
  • Changing sheets and restocking rooms with necessary supplies
  • Ensuring patients or residents receive appropriate diet by reviewing their dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences
  • Stay up to date on CNA training and facility policy and procedure
  • Provide basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients within the Nursing Assistant’s scope of practice that includes actions that meet psychosocial needs and physical needs.
  • Provide general aspects of care that meet psychosocial or physical needs or both simultaneously, within the Nursing Assistant’s scope of practice.
  • Demonstrate performance reflecting the initiative and responsibility expected of a Nursing Assistant.
  • Perform basic patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate to the Charge Nurse any observed changes in patient status and responses.
  • Maintain awareness of the needs of the geriatric and general patient population.
  • Demonstrate ability to assist with feeding patients and maintaining fluid balance with technique appropriate for patient’s age and physical condition.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform treatments and provide services within scope of practice.
  • Communicate appropriately and clearly to team leader, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Provide care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, geriatric, and general population.
  • Demonstrate an ability to assist with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of the Charge Nurse.
  • Respond to patient in emergency or physically distressful situations.
  • Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures patient confidentiality.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions

  • Working irregular hours including call hours
  • Physically demanding, high stress environment
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, and repetitive motion
  • Pushing and pulling heavy objects
  • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients
  • Position requires light to moderate work with 50 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry
  • Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and fingers, talking and/of hearing and seeing

 

Qualifications

  • Current CNA certificate in good standing or ability to complete accredited training program.
  • High level of patience, empathy, and compassion.
