Civil Superintendent (Heavy Highway)

Our client in Sioux Falls, SD is looking to hire a Civil Superintendent. A Field Superintendent is the leader of the project on a day-to-day basis through completion. Able to lead a team to work injury-free/incident free in a construction environment consistent with management philosophy and framework. Work with the Project Manager to coordinate construction efforts that drive improvement in all associated work processes affecting environmental, health and safety compliance, reliability, quality, production and costs. Provides communication that promotes collaboration between all project team members. Facilitate team development and growth, employee skill development, problem solving and resolution, building employee commitment and ownership and accountability.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and understand all aspects of the day-to-day civil construction operations.
  • Collaborate with Safety Director to maintain compliance with all establish polices and guidelines.
  • Ensure crews are working with safe work practices by holding employees accountable
  • Maintain a high visibility on the job site
  • Ensure that all employees are viewed as industrial athletes – daily stretching
  • Hold all associates accountable to professional behavior on the job site.
  • Review daily, any safety plans and assess any possible exposures for the day
  • Must conduct weekly meetings with the construction team, sub-contractors, designers, and the owners
  • Must keep the jobsite organized including the office, tool trailer, and equipment.
  • Engage in the development of a relationship-based safety culture – conduct weekly tool box talks, safety meetings, and participate in the safety observation process
  • Maintain all condition of all equipment assigned to the project – hold operators accountable to basic care of the equipment.
  • Coordinate with any inspections with both Local Government officials and Independent Testing Agencies – must maintain site compliance for BMP and Erosion Control

Education & Experience:

  • Technical education and/or 5 years work experience is required, or the combination of education to meet the essential job functions.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow plans and specification.
  • Knowledge of general safe work practices
  • Knowledge of location and use of all safety devices in area.
  • Ability to monitor all employees to ensure they are fit to perform the essential function of their roles.
  • Ability to work with subcontractors and coordinate work and monitor quality requirement
  • Ability to organize plans, specifications, shop drawings, and changes for easy access – Also maintains as built drawings. Must verify layout accuracy.
  • Possess a valid state issued driver’s license and evidence of insurability – operate vehicle according to the expectations in accordance with state laws. Ability to get Class A CDL.
  • Strong understanding of Heavy Equipment and Maintenance
  • Ability to schedule deliveries daily
  • Must have the ability to learn various PC-based production reporting systems applications.
  • Knowledge of general safe work practices
  • Efficient use of Microsoft office product and computer-based maintenance systems. Prepares payroll information, equipment time, daily diaries, and other records as required and turned in on time.
