Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Patient Registration, the Clerk Patient Registration is responsible for greeting and directing patients, ensuring accurate and timely registration of all patients, collecting payments, and scheduling appointments. You will also perform switchboard duties as needed.

- Registers all incoming patients (inpatient and outpatient). Verifies information in computer is correct. Obtains required paperwork and essential information for processing patients and obtains signatures on required forms. Scans required information for future electronic retrieval.
- Verifies insurance eligibility during registration process.
- Verifies Medicare Medical Necessity compliance, works with Doctors offices for diagnosis when needed. Educates patients regarding compliance while obtaining signatures.
- Receives, screens and gives directions to people coming into the hospital. Directs patients, visitors, and vendors to appropriate areas. Answers telephone promptly and courteously, provides information or takes messages. Reports suspicious persons or activities to administration or shift supervisor.
- Schedules appointments for patients utilizing the Specialty Clinic and Occupational Health Department. Creates and maintains Occupational Health Spec Sheets. Collects money as needed for clients.
- Receives and process information from floor personnel concerning transfer of in-house patients and provides floor personnel with information as requested. Maintains a current list of patients by name and room number, corrects any changes in patient status, patient names and room numbers. Notifies appropriate personnel regarding merging of duplicate accounts. Maintains current list of department directors, and key personnel and their departments.
- Collects co-payments as needed. Performs financial counseling for self pay and underinsured patients instructing them on financial assistance alternatives (HCAP, Care Program, HumanArc and HRSI).
- Maintains records on all Laboratory standing order patients.
- Educates patients on HIPAA regulations, supplying booklets when appropriate.
- Collaborates with co-workers and other departments to meet LCH performance goals. Maintains acceptable error rate of registration.
- Pre-registers scheduled Radiology, Respiratory Therapy and Surgery patients. Contacting patients as needed to obtain accurate financial and demographic information. Verifies insurance coverage.
- Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements.
- Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.

Education:
- High school graduate.
Certifications:
- None required
Complexity of Work:
- Knowledge in medical terminology preferred. Ability to multi-task. Proficient with computer software and multi-line telephone system. Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills.
Work Experience:
- One-year experience in office setting, registration preferred.
