Job Description

Summit Environmental, LLC (Summit) is a Midwest-based remediation and specialty civil contractor who carries out complex work scopes throughout the eastern half of the United States. To strengthen our team, Summit is searching for a qualified On-site Construction Safety Officer (CSO). The primary location for this position will be near Fayetteville, North Carolina. However, travel to other active projects to assist the Safety team is likely on an as-needed basis.


Job Overview

Responsible for implementing and maintaining all relevant Summit Safety Programs in conjunction with client procedures to provide a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

Provide overall Safety leadership, guidance, and technical support to the Summit Site Management team.


· Ensure implementation of the Site Safety Plan and applicable client procedures

· Spending 80-90% of the time in the field coaching and correcting "At-Risk Behaviors"

· Ensure day-to-day Safety work processes are followed

· Monitor the pre-job briefing process periodically to ensure quality of Safety coverage in the briefs

· Assist Supervisors with compliance of the JHA processes

· Assist Supervisors in developing and reviewing JHAs, and Review and Submit the JHAs to Summit Corporate Safety Manager for acceptance

· Assist Supervisors on daily walk-downs and weekly Safety Supervisor inspections

· Help drive and participate in Weekly Supervisor Safety briefings

· Review and communicate daily lessons learned in morning meetings and any other times in the field

· Ensure an appropriate supply of proper PPE is available for workers

· Assist in developing and maintaining site specific plans (e.g., Fall Protection, CSE, Lo/To, etc.)


Basic Qualifications

3+ years of Safety experience with at least 1 year working in construction, or 4 years with a professional certification.


· Must speak, read, and write fluent English

· Must be willing to travel

· Must possess a valid driver's license with clean driving record

· Good written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as moderate to advanced computer and presentation skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

This position requires constant (70-100%) Standing; Walking; Lifting 20 lbs.; Carrying 20lbs.; Pushing; Pulling; Climbing; Balancing; Bending; Stooping; Kneeling; Crouching; Crawling; Reaching; Handling; Feeling; Hearing (listening) and Observing (vision).


· Spend 80-90% of the time in the field

· Work outdoors and able to climb to elevated locations using ladders, scaffold accesses, and stairways

· Operate motor vehicles on site and off site

· Conduct air monitoring on occasion
