Job Description
Controls Engineer
Key Responsibilities
-
Work with Controls Manager to develop and maintain Electrical & Instrumentation Standards
-
Support the sites controls and electrical projects:
-
Works with Controls Integrator to ensure consistent controls system implementation
-
Owns small improvement projects varying from Programming, HMI, Electrical, and mechanical projects
-
Assist Process Engineers with electrical and controls implementation of their projects and ensure standards are being followed
-
Lead Co-op or Intern(s) in executing the Controls component of their projects
-

Resource to support troubleshooting on high priority problems
-
Owns PLC maintenance, backups, preventative maintenance (Battery replacements), documentation, and narratives
-
Assists with updating electrical drawings and other controls documentation as changes are made
-
Assists with minor IT issues, (Laptop set up, Thin manager troubleshooting, networking)
-
Helps troubleshoot and implement sitewide Utilities/Facilities infrastructure such as HVAC/Wastewater, Building Automation
-
Assists Information Security team with site’s infrastructure maintenance and updates
-
Serves as a key resource for the E&I training portion of Technical Resources Coordinator training (Holds labs and owns qualification signoffs)
-
Works with sustainability lead to implement instrumentation needed to gather data, and implement electrical cost savings projects
-
Owns and maintains UPS battery replacement across the site
-
Resource for Quality and Logistics for problems that arise from electrical to computer related
-
Maintains disaster recovery plans and maintains backups and equipment required to support
SELECTION CRITERIA
Education
-
A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required, Electrical or similar is desired.
Experience
-
At least 1-3 years of experience in power and/or controls engineering roles or similar internship, or co-op experience required, preferably with Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley systems
-
Experience supporting capital projects, preferably in the food industry
-
Experience working cross functionally with Operations teams
Other Skills Desired
-
Strong technical knowledge of industrial power, controls, and information systems
-
Working knowledge of NFPA 70E and OSHA 29 1910.269 regulations
-
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a team environment
-
Strong organizational, critical thinking and creativity skills
-
Effective presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
-
Ability to travel, including international trips to equipment suppliers
-
Strong technical teaching skills needed to train technicians during startup
