CVCA Cardiac Care for Pets is growing! We are seeking a Credentialed Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join Columbia Cardiology team and help ensure we are providing those great experiences.  CVCA strives to be the employer of choice, and we pride ourselves in being the premier provider in veterinary cardiac care. Our specialty cardiac staff work directly with the cardiologist to provide medical support and help the doctor achieve greater efficiency by relieving technical work, record keeping and communication tasks. They have a very significant role in communicating with and educating clients about their pet's health.

Position Ssummary:

 

At CVCA, our credentialed technians play a highly-valued role. They are pivotal to all aspects of our successful practice. Our team of technicians and assistants are the “glue” that makes our practice a success. With relationships across the patient’s family, and the referring veterinarians, and our doctors and administrative staff, they help ensure delivery of the highest quality care.

 

CVCA provides technicians and assistants with focused, on-the-job cardiac training to develop strong support skills. Leveraging their growing experience, knowledge and good judgement, our technical staff directly assist the cardiologist by providing key technical work to the patient and helping with excellent record keeping.

 

Technicians and assistants are a critical liaison for patient families, primary care vets, pharmacists, and other technical support staff. Their communication with clients and the primary care community plays a significant role in ensuring the very best patient and client care.

 

The selected individual would be scheduled primarily in our Columbia location with back up scheduling other Maryland locations. 

 

Position Requirements:

  • 2 years of experience in the Veterinary field is preferred (but not required)
  • Background in Specialty medicine, Emergency Medicine, Surgery and Client Service relations a plus!
  • Computer knowledge required.
  • MS Word, MS Excel, Paint, photos, Google drive/sheets/docs, PDF/CutePDF, keyboarding, instant messaging, and email
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • New hires are required to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug test.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Can conduct oneself in a confident and professional manner even when stressed and/or focused on individual tasks
  • Understand all services offered to provide clients with information needed to make informed decisions
  • Possess a deep understanding of our clients, anticipate needs and answer client’s inquiries about hospital policies, basic animal care questions, cost of routine procedures and products
  • Communicate with clients cost of service, financial concerns, patient history, discharges, wait times, and other client communication when appropriate
  • Outline costs and provide financial options in a positive light while supporting hospital payment policies
  • Maintain positive, cooperative relationships with other employees and affiliated servicesDisplay tact and diplomacy with team members and clients even when busy or hectic
  • Deal intelligibly, pleasantly and efficiently with clients, referring veterinarians and affiliated services, often doing several things at one time
  • Skillfully triage medical concerns in emotionally charged situations while offering support, guidance, and education to clients
  • Answers telephones and handles calls quickly, efficiently and in a professional and friendly manner, using a multi-line telephone system
  • Schedule appointments, ensure correct data entry, and prepare for upcoming appointments by confirming appointments, obtaining, reviewing, organizing patient paperwork.
  • Prepare client invoices and obtain payments for services performed
  • Maintain and monitor message board: posting messages for doctors and technicians, processing messages by contacting pcDVMs/clients and updating medical records as needed
  • Assist in creating and transcribing medical records for patients
  • Assist in patient care and appointments, providing proficient technical skills such as compassionate restraint, phlebotomy, digital radiography, ECG and Doppler blood pressure readings
  • Assist and process prescription requests
  • Assist in finalizing medical records and discharging patients
  • General office duties, including maintenance, troubleshooting, and upkeep of office workspace, computers and equipment
  • Has good computer skills and shows accuracy in inputting details
  • Understands and carries out oral and written directions
  • Performs other duties as assigned
