Job Description

Maine Environmental Laboratory is a small, family-owned, National- and State-accredited environmental testing laboratory located in Yarmouth, Maine. We are seeking a full-time Data/Sample Associate to join our team of nine easy-going perfectionists.


Under the supervision of the Laboratory Technical Director, this position shares in the mission of generating and presenting the highest quality reproducible data for our clients, who range from people with drinking water concerns to large industrial facilities operating under federal wastewater permits, municipal sewage treatment plants, engineering firms and landfill operators. An interest in environmental compliance, regulations and standards, and a compulsive attention to detail is desired.


The Data/Sample Associate position will join the Data/Sample Manager in receiving samples, entering laboratory data and results into a laboratory information management system, generating client reports in Excel and pdf and sending them out. Communicating with clients about the dozens of minute details necessary to produce EPA-compliant data will occur hourly.


Because we are a small company, we all wear multiple hats, and flexibility and adaptability to various tasks is expected. 


Job hours are Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM M-Th, 8 AM - 4 PM Fridays. 


Starting date: ASAP


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the control of testing samples which includes logging in, storage, tracking, bottle prep, shipping
  • Data entry and report production
  • Customer service
  • Driving a company car for seasonal courier duty
  • Additional support tasks as needed (cleaning, conference attendance, moving boxes, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):

  • Desire to contribute to environmental health of people and the planet by performing repetitive, highly detailed data tasks perfectly every time
  • Fast learner, personable, team-oriented and relates well to people at all levels
  • High degree of computer experience using databases, Excel, Adobe Acrobat. Network administration skills a plus.
  • Comfortable handling smelly, unpleasant samples
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds daily
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
