Overview

The Assistant Coordinator of the Developmental Services Program (DSP) will be responsible for assisting and supporting the Coordinator of DSP in all aspects of the provision of care, treatment and services for persons served who meet eligibility for services through the Department of Developmental Services (DDS). The Assistant Coordinator of DSP collaborates with the Coordinator of DSP, DDS, and the interdisciplinary team at the facility to provide therapeutic group programs that facilitate recovery and well-being in the eight dimensions of wellness (emotional, environmental, intellectual, occupational, financial, physical, social, spiritual).

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor's in rehabilitation counseling, psychology, or other related human services field preferred or Associates in Occupational Therapy

Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years of group facilitation.
• Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities required.
• Experience in psychiatric hospital or correctional facility is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Valid State Licensure as COTA if applicable.

Responsibilities

1. Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating group or individual treatment with consideration of each person's served cognitive, emotional, and physical abilities that promotes recovery and skills acquisition.
2. Facilitate the development of daily living skills, promote the ability to interact effectively in a group setting, encourage active participation towards recovery, and support increased self-esteem as well as a sense of accomplishment for persons served through group and individual activities.
3. Document the attendance, participation, progress, and presentation of persons served in DSP programming in the medical record.
4. Aide in the development of person-centered goals and strengths-based interventions to incorporate into the care plan in conjunction with the Director of DSP and members of the treatment team from other departments (social services, psychiatry, nursing, etc.)
5. Consult with the interdisciplinary team to educate the person served and staff on individualized adaptive strategies to promote the person's served independence and emotional regulation.
6. Perform other duties as assigned.
