POSITION SUMMARY

This position is a member of the Senior Leadership Team, leading Big Bear Mountain Resort in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, financial training, capital planning and reporting, revenue auditing and cash handling.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

General Responsibilities

General Responsibilities:

  • Manage department to attract, retain, and motivate the team; hire, train, develop, empower, coach, counsel, review, resolve problems and discipline when necessary.
  • Provide Resort leadership in finance, establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures in accounting practices and controls.
  • Facilitate in-house training and group meetings on finance/accounting/business acumen, showing team members how to interpret financial statements and drivers of financial performance.
  • Ability and willingness to follow verbal and written instructions, as well as further develop professional skills required to operate a business effectively with an emphasis on results.
  • Exhibit a willingness to perform other duties as assigned and assist in efforts outside of department as needed.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead Resort level financial reporting in partnership with finance leadership in Denver.
  • Detailed financial analysis and strategic planning of operations supporting the Resort President, resort leadership team, and the Denver accounting and finance team.
  • Working knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), as well as automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
  • Provide Business Development Opportunities and Analysis.
  • Work directly with revenue management team on reporting and analysis.
  • Lead analysis of daily, weekly, and monthly financial statements for all departments to ensure strong financial performance.
  • Lead the annual business planning process, including development of operating budgets, capital plans, and the 5-year plan.
  • Lead the monthly forecast and variance process and developing monthly EBITDA forecasts to ensure adherence to the resort’s business plan.
  • Lead the capital planning process, including working with managers to develop maintenance/growth budgets by project, writing investment memos, opening/closing projects, tracking actual costs vs budget, and providing monthly capital forecasts.
  • Lead year-end audit assistance in partnership with the Denver team.
  • Local lead supporting, communicating, and partnering on initiatives with corporate team members
  • Ensure proper internal controls are in place.
  • Ensure accurate daily reporting of operations revenue and labor.
  • Review month-end journal entries and assist with the month-end close.
  • Interview and hire department candidates, ensuring that personnel are trained, equipped, and fit to perform their duties.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA/BS in Finance/Accounting with 10 Years relevant experience including managing a finance team, FP&A in a corporate shared services environment, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Talented communicator adept at presenting complex materials in an easily understandable format with well thought out recommended courses of action
  • Able to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) and proven experience in cultivating collaborative working relationships with teams across organizations
  • Experience innovating and improving on existing processes and key financial metrics
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and D365, and knowledge in browser-based research tools, HRIS, SharePoint, and other applications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MBA in Finance or similar (MSF, MAC)
  • Professional designations CFA, CMA, CPA or similar
  • Experience in Hospitality setting or similar

WORKING CONDITIONS

Mental strain and fatigue may occasionally be caused by trying to resolve issues, meeting deadlines, and balancing the wants and needs of the Resort staff. Physical hazards include walking up and down steep stairways or on surfaces that may be wet/frozen and slippery, as well as exposure to fumes, odors, dusts, mists and gases, and electric current/shock. Physical strain may also be caused by lifting or movement of objects. Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position a minimum of 20 pounds on an occasional basis, as well as operate a computer and other common office equipment on a constant basis with auditory and visual acuity. Additionally, talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests and employees.

Indoor/Outdoor: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to harsh and varying outside weather conditions.

Hazardous Materials/Noise: The noise level in the work place is usually moderate.
