Job Title: Doctor's Assistant Optical Technician

Reports to: Optical Manager

Classification: Full Time/Non-Exempt

Schedule: Varies

Summary

Doctor's Assistants assist the Optometrist in servicing patients' needs. Work is done under the supervision and guidance of an optometrist, the Optical Management team and the District Training Coordinator.

Essential Functions

Prepare patients before an examination by gathering medical history information, determining the chief complaint and explaining the exam process. Administering tests to determine the visual capabilities of a patient which include but are not limited to: Auto Refractor, NCT, Visual Acuity, Photography and other ancillary testing. Monitors inventory within exam rooms or in the laboratory and records notes during an examination. Assisting the Optical staff with other duties including; checking in patients, scheduling appointments and customer service. Protects patient confidentiality by making sure protected health information is secured by not leaving patient confidential information in plain sight and logging off the computer before leaving it unattended.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED equivalent. Strong customer service. Ability to give clear and concise instructions to customers. Detailed oriented. Must be able to stand/walk/sit for increments of 4 hours or more.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopier, filing cabinets, fax machines and eye medical equipment.
