***This position will be based out of Gahanna, OH ***

Responsible for the timely resolution of Customer’s Power Quality and Reliability concerns for AEP OHIO customers located throughout the state.  The individual will work closely with Distribution and Transmission organizations in evaluating AEP system and end-user compatibility issues in order to improve Customer satisfaction. 

This position will also meet with Customers (primarily industrial and commercial) to analyze equipment inside the Customer’s facility.  Power Quality audits and recommendations will be made concerning the Customer’s equipment.  Customer’s equipment will be analyzed using the Electric Power Research Institutes’ (EPRI’s) PQ Investigator software.  Specific recommendations for ride-through technology (
uninterruptible power supply - UPS, Constant voltage transformer - CVT, Coil hold-in device, flywheel, static series compensator, drive parameter settings, standby generator, etc.) will be made to make their processes more robust and to be immune for many system anomalies

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Technical Expertise: Exhibits journey level proficiency plus advanced knowledge that enables the engineer to serve as a leader within the assigned organization. Keeps abreast of new products, developments, technologies, procedures and equipment. Understands and analyzes interrelationships between systems and component equipment. Interprets codes and regulations, and develops standards relevant to the area of assignment.

Understand various Power Quality software packages.  Provision for Eagle and Guardian recorders; Prontos for Ranger & Rustrack recorders; Dranview.

Become familiar with the various codes such as NEC, NESC, ANSI C84.1, IEEE 519, 1453, C95.6, etc. in order to interpret and determine possible problems and compliance with operating equipment.

Become familiar with the various AEP internal programs: Outage Management System; ADXfg; TOPSWeb; Distribution and Transmission operating logs; Cognos; Central Station; MACSS; and mapping tools: Atlas; One-lines; Switching charts, etc.

System phenomena, which may be perceived as power quality include, but not limited to: momentary interruptions, voltage transients, harmonic distortion, anomalous voltage magnitude or frequency which are steady state, intermittent, or single occurrences. 

Knowledge of utility distribution and transmission equipment and operation is desirable.  Knowledge of manufacturing control level, panel level and facility level equipment (variable frequency drives - VFD, contactors, relays, motor starters, Programable logic controller - PLC, control power transformers, servo drives, etc.) is desirable.

Desired Experience: Analyzing the cause and effect of faults on distribution and transmission systems;  PQ Customer walkthrough studies; Harmonic diagnostic & Mitigation Studies; Grounding & Bonding Studies; Transient Surge Protection Studies; Waveform analysis;

Requirements

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Has typically acquired 6 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*; or 4 years of related engineering experience along with a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET*; Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is encouraged and preferred.

*ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or (2) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
** Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.

Additional Information
This position will be a hybrid position located in Columbus, both office and home.
Must be able to travel to Customer sites and occasionally overnight. 
Must be able to work inside manufacturing facilities that may be hot, loud and/or and dirty. 
Extended standing may be required to analyze Customer equipment.
