Primary Purpose

The Epic Integration Architect is responsible for the development, implementation and/or maintenance of the Epic-based data and analytics solutions on behalf of the vision provided by Parkland Health. They are responsible for aligning the Epic data and analytics strategy and approach with the overall enterprise analytics strategy along with organizational needs taking into consideration other factors such as security and performance.

The Epic Integration Architect translates current and future business needs into cross functional solutions that align with and primarily leverage Epic analytics environment tools and products. The Epic Integration Architect should have an in-depth understanding of the entire Parkland analytics environment, including technology and applications as well as knowledge of other IT functions that allows him/her to pull in other teams as necessary to solve multi-faceted analytics problems. As a subject matter expert in both the Epic data and analytics platform and the data flowing through it, this role is expected to lead other analytics and COE team members through solutions implementations - to include governance, architecture, and content delivery.

The individual in this role will be expected to communicate Epic centric solution design, concepts, and strategy effectively to a broad/wide audience, including executive leadership.  This role may also need to coordinate and externally engage with Community Connect and other organizations sharing Parkland derived guidance best practice and results.

Minimum Specifications

Education

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Math, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Prefer a master’s degree in a related field.

Experience

  • Must have at least eight years of experience working with data and analytics solutions in Epic, including experience implementing and enabling adoption of Epic analytics solutions, including RWB, Slicer Dicer, Radar dashboards, Registries, and Cogito SQL
  • Must have experience implementing and/or working closely with Epic data-oriented applications, including a combination of the following: Healthy Planet, Compass Rose, Nebula, Cosmos, Cubes, custom Epic data in Caboodle, and the Epic Analytics Catalog
  • Must have at least five years of experience working with data warehouses and large data sets
  • Must have five years of experience building and running Structured Query Language (SQL) queries, Crystal reports, and/or other reporting tools
  • Must have experience collaborating with leadership and executives in a variety of settings
  • Must be certified in at least one Clarity Data Model; prefer additional Cogito certifications
  • Prefer certification in at least one Epic application [e.g., EpicCare Inpatient]

Equivalent Education and/or Experience

  • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both the education and the experience requirements.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

  • Must be certified in at least one Clarity Data Model; prefer additional Cogito certifications
  • Prefer certification in at least one Epic application [e.g., EpicCare Inpatient]

Skills or Special Abilities

  • Must have proven success in Epic Cogito infrastructure, including a deep, functional understanding of Chronicles, Clarity, and Caboodle
  • Must be able to develop and convey best practices for adoption of Epic data and analytics solutions, including RWB, Slicer Dicer, Radar dashboards, Registries, and Cogito SQL, and data-oriented Epic applications and tools, including Healthy Planet, Compass Rose, Nebula, Cosmos, Cubes, custom Epic data in Caboodle, and the Epic Analytics Catalog
  • Must have expertise in Structured Query Languages (SQL)
  • Must have strong organizational, analytical, and statistical skills
  • Must be able to demonstrate outstanding verbal and written communication skills to multiple audiences across multiple roles, including executives, physicians, managers, nurses, and other leaders
  • Must be able to scope and prepare projects, schedules, and reports in support of ongoing work and strategic planning efforts
  • Must be focused on delivering quality solutions to internal customers and be able to manage customer relationships effectively
  • Must be able to serve as a customer liaison to departments organization wide, and external across partners as directed
  • Must be skilled in data management and analysis
  • Must have excellent presentation skills with the ability to prepare a presentation, refine a message, and deliver it to vary groups
  • Must be skilled in mentorship and support and development for peers
  • Must be able to demonstrate skills in reporting, Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio
  • Prefer experience with “Big Data” sets and management
  • Prefer experience and understanding of leading data processing solutions
  • Prefer experience and understanding of Cloud data platforms

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the overall architecture, design, development, and maintenance of the enterprise strategy for Parkland's use of Epic data and analytics solutions in the context of our comprehensive analytics strategy and roadmap
  • Participates in strategic planning, coordination, and consolidation of strategic plans for analytics delivery at Parkland Health
  • Identifies incidents, research causes, and recommends and implements solutions as needed. Prioritizes and manages the assignment of incidents. Develops and implements emergency fixes as required.
  • Plans and ensures effective implementation of analytics solutions within the Epic ecosystem
  • Supports system analytics staff across Parkland (on the Enterprise Data Services team and throughout our distributed analytics teams/analytics COE's) and reporting operations in understanding and managing Epic analytics solutions
  • Mentors’ employees regarding optimal use of Epic analytics solutions and their place in the broader Parkland analytics infrastructure and analytics strategy
  • Develops data validation processes and techniques for efficient verification of data and sources.

Job Accountabilities

  • Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
