Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking a Firefighter to join our Environmental, Health, Safety, and Fire Protection team at the BWI site in Linthicum, Maryland. The selected applicant will be responsible for successfully implementing all fire and building code related programs at the BWI site and other Mission Systems sites in Maryland, also supporting our Structural Fire Brigades and Haz Mat teams at BWI and the Advanced Technology Laboratory.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
- Conducting periodic building fire safety inspections
- Inspection of new construction for building and fire code compliance
- Supporting facilities engineering with construction plan reviews
- Supporting in-house and sector EHSFP audits
- Inspection, testing and maintenance of fire alarm and life safety systems
- Inspection, testing and maintenance of water based and special suppression systems
- Supporting and responding to fire and hazardous materials incidents
- Training and supporting in-house emergency response teams and building evacuations
- Coordinating with outside emergency response teams to mitigate incidents quickly and efficiently to minimize production down time as well as assisting in recovery efforts
In addition, this position maintains the essential PPE required for use with our emergency response and fire brigade teams as required by the NFPA and OSHA standards.
The position can be filled at a Level 3 or 4.
Basic Qualifications for Level 3:
- The candidate shall possess a minimum of Fire Inspector II and Firefighter I certifications.
- The candidate should have a good working knowledge all applicable local, State and Federal codes and ordinances as they relate to fire protection, life safety, building construction, fire control, and fire detection.
- The candidate will be required to obtain a Haz-Mat Technician certification, which will also require annual medical surveillance and medical certification for the use of self-contained breathing apparatus, which will be provided.
- The candidate should have a minimum of four years of fire service experience, a working knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), and will be required to respond to fire and hazardous materials incidents.

- The candidate shall possess a minimum of Fire Inspector II and Firefighter I certifications.

- The candidate should have a minimum of six years of fire service experience, a working knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), and will be required to respond to fire and hazardous materials incidents.
Preferred Qualifications for Level 4:
- The optimal candidate would possess an Associate Degree in Fire Science or related field and/or possess certification as a Firefighter II, Fire Inspector III, Hazmat Technician, Fire Service Instructor I and 10 years experience in the Fire Prevention field.
