Job Description

The Food Safety & Quality Assurance Manager must possess the desire and ability to plan, organize, and direct quality assurance personnel and programs to assure that products conform to customer specifications, SQF standards, as well as Federal, State, and local standards.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the safety of all employees under their supervision and to enforce and adhere to safety protocols
  • Interact with all departments including warehouse team to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and expectations
  • Lead all regulatory, customer, and 3rd party audits and oversee any resulting corrective actions
  • Hold the position of and current certifications for PCQI, HACCP, Recall, and Food Defense Coordinator
  • Oversee the SQF program and ensure compliance with current standards
  • Develop, implement and manage all food safety and quality policies and programs throughout the manufacturing site
  • Responsible for administering food safety training to all facility employees
  • Carry out traceability exercises and Mock Recalls with manufacturing and warehouse teams
  • Manage supplier programs, their documents, and performance
  • Schedule internal inspections with food safety team, document observations, assign corrective actions and discuss findings with team
  • Hold monthly meetings with Food Safety Team to review food safety and quality system and ensure continuous improvements
  • Manage internal food safety audits and corrective actions
  • Work in conjunction with Operations Manager and Production Supervisors in advising on Sanitation. Manage, trend, and report on verification of sanitation activities
  • Monitor and report daily on KPI’s taking appropriate actions and providing recommendations to management team
  • Manage customer complaints by investigating root cause, implementing corrective actions, and analyzing trend data of complaints to drive continuous improvements
  • Manage
  • Directly supervises a 24/7 team of 7 within quality assurance. Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Aids R&D team with administrative tasks in shelf-life studies and product development
  • This role requires occasional off shift and weekend work at times with minimal notice
  • Minimum travel maybe required
  • Other responsibilities assigned by business needs

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in food science (or commensurate with experience), microbiology, or related field
  • Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) Certification
  • HACCP certified
  • SQF Practitioner certification or ability to achieve promptly once employed
  • Food Defense Coordinator or ability to achieve promptly once employed
  • US work authorization

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):

  • Strong knowledge of food manufacturing with bakery experience preferred, HACCP, GMPs, SSOPs, Food Defense, SQF, and FSMA.
  • 5 years or more experience in the areas of quality/technical services, food safety, auditing, bakery and/or related fields
  • Exceptional risk assessment skills (regulatory requirements, safety and quality risks)
  • Strong analytical and computer skills
  • Experience leading a team
  • Detail oriented with excellent follow-up skills
  • Must be able to juggle multiple competing projects
  • Knowledge of computer software: Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, Famous
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects
  • Flexible work schedule (weekdays and weekends, days and evenings)
