POSITION SUMMARY

Groundskeepers are responsible for the daily maintenance of Stratton’s 27 hole Golf Course and for providing the best possible playing conditions for our guests. This seasonal position starts April 18th (weather dependent) through October. Summer employee housing available for this role. Wages starting at $16.50. 

Strong team players with positive attitudes are essential to the success of the department. Tasks include daily course set up, bunker maintenance, operation of all types of turf maintenance equipment, lifting, digging, line trimming and all other aspects of golf course maintenance. Depending on skill level duties may include the operation of medium to large turf equipment (greens, tee, fairway, and rough mowers). 

Shifts are Monday - Friday from 6:30am - 3pm, and and one morning shift either Saturday or Sunday (6am - 9am), including holidays. Shorter shifts (6:30am - 10am) also available. Requirements include the ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions.  Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. unassisted. 

Ideal candidates are familiar with the game of golf and preferably play (and love) the game! Local, affordable housing is available for the summer season.  

Course information - Rich in history and scenic beauty, Stratton offers one of New England's finest golf experiences. Golf Digest describes Stratton's Golf Course as one of the top resort courses in New England. Three distinct nine hole layouts, Forest, Lake and Mountain, give guests 27 reasons to play Stratton, a six-year stop on the LPGA Tour. Noted golf course architect, Geoffrey Cornish, took full advantage of natural contours, water and trees to create a challenging course with Mountain Five, the longest in Vermont, cited as one of his Dream 18.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist in the readiness of grounds for opening of the golf season
  • Assist in the readiness of grounds for closing of the golf season
  • Daily course set up
  • Bunker maintenance
  • May operate turf machinery (greens, tee, fairway, and rough mowers)
  • Digging (shovel & machine)
  • Line trimming
  • Other duties as assigned by Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma preferred
  • previous experience in similar field preferred
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to operate machinery used for grounds maintenance
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions (rain, extreme heat, cold, insects, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of golf
  • Flexible hours to include early mornings and some weekend hours

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Outdoors Environment:

  • The primary physical environment in which this position works is out of doors with a high exposure level to cold, snow, wind, heat, rain, bugs, sun, lightning, etc.
  • The degree of strenuous activity within the job is considered to be high. Often lifting a weight of 50 pounds throughout the day is common
  • Additional strenuous physical activity may include walking or hiking upon uneven, challenging terrain with heavy tools or equipment
  • Exposure to: Chemicals required for cleaning, de-greasing, and painting Ultra Violet radiation from the sun enhanced through lack of atmospheric filtration at work altitude.  Fumes produced in activities ranging from cleaning to painting to fabrication of metal products. Noise generated by equipment and tools may require hearing protection to be worn.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception
