L.L.Bean is currently searching for an Industrial Engineer to join the Fulfillment team located in Freeport, Maine.

Position Purpose: In this important role this person will apply Industrial Engineering methodologies and practices in planning activities for complex equipment and workflow layouts in the Order Fulfillment Center and the Manufacturing Division. May assign duties to non-exempt technicians.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in organizational growth planning and expansion programs providing engineering input and project coordination/facilitation on projects of complex scope and size.
  • Work with outside architects, contractors, engineers, vendors, consultants, etc., as required by project assignments. May attend public meetings in obtaining zoning variances, planning board approvals, etc., in accordance with local, state, and/or federal regulations.
  • Compile and analyze labor cost data to help manage existing and future operational or production activities.
  • Prepare feasibility studies relevant to capital expenditures for new processes. Perform cost studies and ergonomic analyses to support recommendations. Share data with more senior engineers.
  • Assist Senior Industrial Engineer in analyzing labor and material cost estimates for new equipment. Assist in project budget planning.
  • Mentor and support Associate Industrial Engineers.
  • Know and follow all safety rules and procedures.


Analyze methods, layout and workflow of processes to increase efficiency and productivity.

  • Develop and recommend methods, procedures and controls in operations or production.
  • Utilize ergonomic analysis to develop safest methods and layout of workspace.
  • Determine most effective work methods for operations or production and recommend improvements and changes.
  • Design workplace layout and assist in determining cost of improvements.


Compile and assimilate data related to operational or production processes.

  • Determine standard time for each operation using time study analysis of motion patterns.
  • Establish standard data for operations or production.
  • Maintain current labor standards.
  • Develop and recommend production control, work balancing, and scheduling methods.


Share engineered standards and ergonomic information with employees.

  • Communicate changes in standards to leadership.
  • Work with employees upon the implementation of new standards and ergonomic improvements.
  • Serve as a resource to supervision in addressing questions and concerns related to standards and ergonomics.

Education Level: 4-Year Bachelors Degree
Years of Experience: 2+ years

Skills and Qualifications:

  • BSIE/BSIT required
  • 1-3 years of applicable Industrial Engineering experience in a dynamic environment
  • Strength in applying Industrial Engineering practices and methodologies
  • Strength in understanding operations or production decisions and impacts to changes
  • Understanding of financial impacts to business decisions
  • Project management experience
  • Demonstrated effective relationship building and team building skills
  • Demonstrated success delivering results with focus on process effectiveness
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with other service and support areas
