Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc. of the Infection Control Committee and to coordinate the systematic monitoring of causes, spread of infection, prevention, policies pertaining to isolation techniques, documentation of incidents, and corrective action related to infection and staff education.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and hold a current Registered Nurse's license in the State of NJ.
  2. Must have working knowledge of nursing services, nursing administration, general nursing, and geriatric nursing.
  3. Must be qualified to assume the position by training and /or previous experience, preferably in a health care facility.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be physically and mentally capable of performing routine job duties.
  2. Good administrative, managerial, organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.
  3. Be personable with residents, families, and staff in a professional and cooperative manner.
  4. Must have compassion, tolerance, and understanding for the elderly.
  5. Thorough knowledge of JCAHO, OBRA, IDPH, and HFS regulations.

MAIN DUTIES:

  1. Support the facility's philosophy of care and strive to achieve its goals and objectives.
  2. Establish the documentation format for all Infection Control reporting.
  3. Establish specific policies and procedures for Infection Control as it relates to the following departments: a) nursing, b) maintenance, c) laundry, d) dietary, e) rehabilitation, f) ancillary services
  4. Monitor the documentation by nursing personnel of incidents of infection and file for reporting and analysis.
  5. Analyze the incidents of infection and prepare a quarterly report reflecting the results. This report shall be submitted to the DON and at appropriate forums such as the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement meetings. 
  6. Address patterns or trends in the incidents of infection with appropriate follow-up and corrective action and supervise the performance of the corrective procedures by designated departments or individual staff and their clinical effect.
  7. Establish the objectives of Infection Control education and schedule training and in-services to facilitate their attainment.
  8. Maintain the confidentiality of resident information and honor his/her personal and property rights.
  9. Follow established fire, disaster, safety, infection control, and evacuation policies and procedures.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Administrator and DON.
  11. Work as weekend Supervisor as part of Department head monthly rotation.
