Job Description:
Histology Technologist HTL ASCP
Prepares histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologist
Full-Time Position (80 Hours Per Pay Period)
Shift: Days Days: Varied
Wages Based Upon Experience

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position
- Demonstrates the ability to operate applicable office equipment
- Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public
- Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
- Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
- Demonstrates a general knowledge of histologic techniques, procedures, and safety precautions
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES
- Must meet current qualifications listed under section "Clinical Laboratory Personnel Requirements" defined in the federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments Act of 1988 (CLIA-88) and Oregon Department of Human Services Regulations, College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Joint Commission standards. CAP reserves the right to set requirements that are more stringent than those of CLIA-88.
- Bachelor's Degree and Registry as Histotechnologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent or be eligible for board certification within six months of attaining position OR
- Registry as Histology Technician with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent
EXPERIENCE
- Experience with LIS and HIS computer systems, tissue processor, embedding center, automatic stainer, automated coverslipper, analytic balance, automated microtome, microwave, microscope, telephone, tissue flotation bath, volumetric glassware and cryostat

Physical/Mental/Environmental Requirements
- Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently

- Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
- Requires periodic use of personal computer
