Focus on evolving and maturing our data technologies and capabilities. This position will be responsible for participating and leading BI/Visualization content and integration development activities. In close partnership with the Data Management, Data Science, Data Governance and Finance departments, this role will deliver on project level initiatives where Business Intelligence and Analytics deliverables are required as well as assist in guiding our strategic business partners towards a self-service Business Intelligence model. The role will participate and adhere to Ameritas technical change governance policies, the Enterprise-wide development life cycle, and security practices. A passionate and curious individual on data and ability to show/explain complex trends using visualizations and data story telling * Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical partners (including senior leadership) with focus on informing, influencing, and relationship building. * Skills or experience in the development of best practice standards. * Ability to break down complex problems and projects into manageable goals. Understand root cause of the problem and make sound, timely decisions to resolve them. * Ability to adapt to new or frequently changing directions. * Strong sense of accountability, adaptability, flexibility, and a sense of urgency. * Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. * Strong data analysis and quantitative skills, with a desire to drive towards data-driven decisions. What you do * Design and develop Business Intelligence reports, dashboards, and visualizations for business partners. * Provide technical and subject matter expertise across a broad range of systems * Participate in the definition and adherence of BI/Visualization development life cycle best practices and standards, including UX/CX principles around data storytelling with visualizations. * Participate in the development of cross-platform integration points to extend the Business Intelligence and Analytics capabilities and features, utilizing platform SDKs/APIs and open-source visualization libraries. * Working with management, participate in discussions around future direction for current and new Business Intelligence and Analytics technologies. * Participates in complex projects during design, development, and implementation, both as an individual contributor and team member. * Creates and reviews technical documents for projects and systems, ensuring that documents are kept up to date. * Works closely with technical team to ensure functional requirements translate completely and correctly into the technical design. Coordinates between other IT areas to maintain maximum efficiency of application systems * Plans, organizes, and executes projects of varying complexity, within specified timeframes and budget. Organizes, directs, and assists development efforts of others as needed. May lead small to medium sized development projects or programs * Researches and responds to user questions about report and dashboard functions or interdependencies/interrelationships of source data. * Collaborate and partner with existing Application, Database, Network, and Server administration departments. * Work closely with management and business unit stakeholders to ensure alignment with enterprise business plans and strategic initiatives. What you bring * 4-7 years of experience with heavy BI/Visualization and analytics development. * Expert level experience in data visualization best practices and data storytelling * Expert knowledge of SQL, experience designing and developing analysis cubes using SQL SSAS * Relevant bachelor's or master’s degree, or combination of education and work experience required. * Focused experience in report/dashboard development using Power BI or Tableau required * Basic level knowledge in Cognos required * Proficiency in Power BI Power Query and complex DAX calculations preferred * Deep understanding of Relational Models, Tabular Models, and Multi-Dimensional Models required * Experience with Financial Reporting, accounting principles, Budgeting, Forecasting, Planning & Expense reporting preferred * Understanding of Insurance Regulatory environment or information services industry is desired * Active Microsoft certifications desired * Experience with the Agile/Scrum methodology desired * Experience practicing basic principles of proper data visualization design for effective storytelling * Knowledge of data science concepts and tools such as Daitaku, Python, or R desired but not required What we offer * Our company motto is "Fulfilling Life" and we take that job seriously, with a heavy commitment to volunteering and community support, employee well-being, and providing quality products and services that help our customers create a brighter future. * Being a mutual-based organization, the return on our investment goes back into the company, to benefit our members/customers. * We're committed to professional development, opportunity, inclusion, and diversity.
