Underwrite individual life insurance cases utilizing a deep understanding of underwriting principles and knowledge of relevant life insurance products. At Ameritas, our mission is Fulfilling Life. The Lead Individual Underwriter is responsible for underwriting large or complex insurance cases by using extensive subject matter knowledge about company products and underwriting principles. This position works independently and influences others to achieve significant operational targets and has responsibility for small projects. This position will rely heavily on strong communication skills to partner with field agents both in gathering information and explaining underwriting decisions and results. Relevant products will include term life, whole life, universal life, and variable life. What you do * Analyze and evaluate risk for insurance cases considering characteristics such as plan design, demographics, experience, financial or medical factors, and state and federal regulations. * Select and maintain cases to achieve revenue, persistency, and profitability goals for top and bottom-line growth. Communicate financial and other factors to field partners. * Design and coordinate issuance of plans, policies, or premium rates within established departmental guidelines. Take lead on identifying problems and providing solutions and alternatives. * Demonstrate an extensive understanding of various insurance products, their features and limitations, and industry/regulatory terms. * Provide training and guidance to new or entry level associates. May supervise or audit the work of others. * Lead small projects that have significant impact on department results.
