Job Description
Is responsible for coordinating, directing, and maintaining quality in the activities of subordinates engaged in performing respiratory care modalities. Provides pertinent consultation to physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other hospital members regarding appropriateness of respiratory care modalities. Mentors, precepts, and engages less experienced staff. Promotes departmental support for the strategic plan and mission of Carle Hospital and its entities. Maintains an environment conducive to the integration of services with the departments throughout the system in a manner that supports the continuum of care. Able to function in all clinical areas. Will provide bedside education to the RT staff ensuring competency through both skill validation and frequent monitoring of all staff. Will serve and have an active role as the education and quality resource for all RT practices and as the orientation resource for all new employees. Perform routine chart audits and education sessions to ensure education needs are being addressed for staff. Additionally, will help maintain blood gas lab per regulatory standards. Demonstrates leadership and organization skills with the ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with others.
- Function as a role model Respiratory Therapist demonstrating competence in clinical judgment, technical skills, and appropriate knowledge base
- Provides clinical direction to staff; evaluates the level of care provided
- Completes clinical chart audits and educational review regarding any discrepancies and aid in the improvement and understanding of care
- Reviews and assist with policy and procedure review/revisions
- Provides clinical support and assistance to Respiratory Care Staff
- Assists with educational competencies
- Develop and coordinate orientation for various groups of Respiratory Therapists including techs and travelers
- Recruit, prepare, and coordinate Respiratory staff for preceptor positions
- Serve as a resource for professional growth with Respiratory Therapists interested in the clinical ladder
- Education and resource for Respiratory Care, Nursing, and Physicians
- Reviews and updates Respiratory Care policy and procedures
- Monitors and audits performance indicators for Respiratory Care
- Assists with new capital equipment needs
- Assists with maintaining blood gas labs
- Assists with new employee orientation
