Job Description

Job Purpose: Provides paralegal support to the FirstGroup America Law Department, with particular focus on management of all aspects of discovery – from hold orders to document gathering and production, working with business and the field, subpoena responses, formulation of standard documents for contracts and agreements,  and annual reporting requirements for company compliance.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Management of all aspects of discovery, as described above
  • Assist in drafting legal correspondence and responses to demand letters and non-litigation related requests for information
  • Manages subpoena requests to the company, including verifying consents to provide information, gathering information from field and headquarters locations, reviewing documentation provided, and responding to requests.
  • Under the supervision and direction of Counsel, prepares standard form legal documents, using contract templates and master form agreements.
  • Conducts routine and specific legal and factual information research and data compilation, as directed by attorneys.
  • Researches and responds to routine correspondence forwarded to the Law Department.
  • Responds to written and verbal requests from attorneys and internal customers.
  • Drafts, sends, and tracks litigation hold orders
  • Manages small claim litigation
  • Assist with compiling information for responding to complaints, research of allegations, and other tasks as needed.
  • Assistance in collections matters.

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred
  • Paralegal certification from an ABA approved school preferred
  • 3 - 5 years of paralegal experience with a law firm and/or corporate legal department
  • Litigation experience, including management of all aspects of discovery, from hold orders through document gathering and organization
  • Subpoena management and response experience
  • High level Word and Excel skills and experience
  • Ability to work independently in an active environment
