Job Summary:

The Sr Manufacturing Engineer/CNC Programmer is a critical project leadership role that acts as the Core Manufacturing Leader for NPI and Legacy programs. You will be involved early in Quoting/DFM as designs come together and programs take shape, eventually planning the entire manufacturing piece and owning it through launch and continuous improvements on legacy products. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Project management – Plan, lead, and execute multiple NPI programs assigned. Manage manufacturing resources to support ME portion of program while partnering with other internal functions including Program Manager, Quality, Planning, and Production as well as interfacing with customer technical team members as required. 
  • CAPEX – Research new equipment to support product and program needs, providing justification as part of program for approval and then planning execution within program framework.  
  • Be accountable for complete process planning, development, and work with quality on validation for assigned programs. This includes process flow, PFMEA, equipment selection (including capacity), tooling, fixturing, CAD/CAM and CNC programs, gauges, documentation, and other supporting elements to ensure a thorough and capable process at launch. 
  • Own ME portion for Manufacturing Readiness for assigned programs so planned jobs are ready to run effectively on schedule. Ensure completion of tasks either by execution or work of other team members. 
  • Provide quotations and financial estimations to support program pro formas and customer quotation needs. Own manufacturing cost targets per project plan and find solutions to meet targets when off track. 
  • Own and lead PFMEAs – partner with quality team on control plans and ensuring measurement systems are in place meeting or exceeding process requirements. Partner with customer or internal design teams on DFMEA inputs as well as working with outputs.
  • Actively research and stay abreast of industry trends and new manufacturing technologies to support NPI programs and continuous improvement of Legacy programs of today and tomorrow as well as advance Tecomet manufacturing competitiveness. 
  • Perform other related duties as required or directed.

Qualification Requirements

 

Educational/Training Requirement: 

  • BS Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Manufacturing) preferred or equivalent 15+ years’ experience in a similar role.

Experience: 

  • 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment including CAD/CAM, CNC precision machining. 
  • Significant experience in planning, managing, and executing manufacturing projects such as NPI, CAPEX, product transfers, etc. 
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience a plus. 

Licenses/Certifications: 

  • Project Management training and/or certification preferred (ex: CAPM, PMP)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

 

  • Strong experience with project management – assessing, planning, executing, and closing 
  • Experience in CAM systems (Mastercam preferred) and CNC programming and machining process development in Multi axis CNC machines. Turning, Swiss and /or Mill-turn experience preferred. Experience in optimizing processes and cycle times 
  • Working knowledge and expertise in new product and process introduction (NPPI) and validation (PPAP, PFMEA/DFMEA, etc). Experience in medical or aerospace environments are ideal.
  • Experience with problem solving and driving root cause solutions (RCCM, 8D, DMAIC, etc) and coaching others. Knowledge of measurement systems and process capability. 
  • Strong curiosity for advanced manufacturing technology and ability to do research and develop solutions to exceed needs and build competitive advantage. 
  • Excellent grasp of manufacturing engineering fundamentals – engineering drawing and specification interpretation, GD&T, Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFMA), equipment design, and process documentation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Able to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • Solid financial acumen – knows cost estimating, understands P&L and capital budgeting
  • Working knowledge of CAD software (Solidworks preferred) – ability to design tooling and fixturing as well as generate in process prints. 
  • Basic lean and/or industrial engineering knowledge and experience – process flow, equipment and line layout, ergonomics, etc.
  • Basic ERP knowledge – able to create and maintain basic manufacturing documentation (routings, BOMs, item masters, etc)
  • Goal oriented and able to complete assignments on time with significant latitude and self-direction while exercising sound engineering judgement.
