What You'll Do

The System Test organization is a multidisciplinary group dedicated to validating the performance of Symbotic's warehouse automation system and driving the highest standards of quality and reliability. System Test is responsible for all aspects of test planning and execution, from early-stage new product development initiatives to continuous improvement of our products in the field.

In This Role

  • Build and manage a team of multi-disciplinary Test Engineers responsible for integration and verification test of hardware and software for Symbotic automation cells (including palletizing/depalletizing robots, conveyors, and vertical lifts) through all stages of development.
  • Develop Controls Test Engineers in all aspects of career growth, while instilling a strong culture of trust and teamwork.
  • Work with Hardware and Industrial Controls Engineering to validate selection and sourcing of components such as PLCs, drives, motors, sensors, HMIs, actuators, and vision systems.
  • Execute verification test for new PLC code releases and regression test for bug fixes.
  • Develop and implement manual and automated test fixtures as required.
  • Develop roadmap of test methods and environments to anticipate future product and department needs, identify risks, and drive resolution.
  • Establish team priorities through close collaboration with Project Management.
  • Coordinate test schedules, set program milestones and identify key dependencies to test.
  • Drive meticulous root cause analysis of complex, multifaceted system issues.
  • Distill complex test data into easily consumable formats.
  • Characterize and report product health, reliability, and production readiness during all phases of development.
  • Produce clear, concise presentations and communicate results to senior management.
  • Advise Operations on test methods for in-house production and with supplier partners.
  • Advise the technical community on performance metrics to inform product development.


What You'll Need
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (Mechatronics, Robotics Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Science, etc.). Master's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience testing industrial control and automation systems with a high degree of hardware and software complexity.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience directly managing test engineering teams.
  • Strong technical background with the Rockwell platform.
  • Extensive experience planning and implementing various test methods (functional, regression, reliability, recovery, etc.) particularly in physical environments.
  • Impactful leadership skills and ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members.
  • Strong analytical, creative problem solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Fluency in tools for data analysis, reliability, and quality control such as 8D, FMEA, DOE, Gauge R&R and Weibull analysis.
  • Outstanding communication skills with demonstrated ability to organize and present data.
  • Experience in Jira and TestRail preferred.
  • Willingness to travel as required to support project deliverables.
