Manager, Mechanical Engineering

Everett, WA

The Engineering Manager at Allegion’s AD Systems facility will provide policy and leadership for the product engineering unit.  The manager will independently guide and direct the product engineering function in a proactive manner in all facets of the department; this will include product design, project engineering, Engineer-To-Order, production support, product documentation, infrastructure design, policy conformance, training, budget management and staff development.  The manager will work closely with other internal departments to ensure that the company’s finished products meet our customers’ expectations of superior quality and on-time delivery.

What You Will Do:

• Lead and manage the timely and accurate delivery of product designs and product engineering support to external and internal customers
• Oversee the planning and execution of all projects ensuring deliverables and deadlines are met
• Ensure that all product documentation is kept up to date 
• Ensure new system designs meet business objectives and requirements
• Maintain system compliance with relevant regulations and standards
• Develop and champion organizational engineering tools, techniques, and practices to improve profitability, quality, and operational efficiency
• Implement initiatives for continuous quality improvement of engineering deliverables
• Directly supervise employees in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws including interviewing, hiring, and training.  Provide policy and leadership.  Plan, assign and direct work.  Create a culture of engagement.  Appraise performance.  Reward and discipline employees as required.
• Grow departmental expertise through internal and external staff development
• Provide exceptional internal and external customer service
• Participate in AD System’s leadership team to provide product guidance and support.
• Perform other functions as assigned

What You Need to Succeed:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education with engineering experience.
• 5+ years experience in product engineering, product development, and project management
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Strong experience in the design of mass-produced products and in new product development
• Strong leadership skills with an ability to manage both personal and team’s workload and to prioritize multiple tasks. 
• Demonstration of Allegion Leadership competencies and behaviors.
• Demonstration of independent judgment and initiative
• Strong organizational and project management skills combined with a close attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Driven self-starter dedicated to quality and continual process improvement

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer and a keyboard for extended periods of time on most or all workdays; the employee is also required to use a telephone throughout the workday as needed to conduct business.  In addition, the individual in this job will be working under time pressure and must be able to perform under stress.  They must be able to work rapidly for long periods and to communicate and interact with others.  They also must be able to perform multiple concurrent tasks, read and comprehend the material they read.  They must be able to write, problem-solve, and they must be able to lift and move up to 20 pounds.  40+ hours per week will typically be necessary to accomplish performance objectives and to provide satisfactory job presence and/or responsiveness.
