Job Description
Our client is 140-person, family-owned manufacturing company that is growing. They manufacturer agricultural equipment and need to add a Mechanical Design Engineer to their team to help develop new products and revise existing products. They are in South-Central Iowa, about 70 miles from Des Moines. You will report to the Director of Engineering. This is a company that truly values their staff.
What you will be doing:
- Work collaboratively with the engineering team and various plant personnel to improve designs on existing products or develop new products
- Provide technical expertise in recommending equipment, new concepts, and techniques to improve performance, simplify processes, and improve material designs or material flaws.
- Utilize SolidWorks to create designs for the entire product, not just a single component
- Interface with customers / dealers to obtain practical understanding of requirements to design new products and improve existing products to meet the demands of the market.
- Communicate and coordinate with manufacturing staff and procurement specialists to ensure manufacturability and cost control of the finished product.
- Participate in product development testing to validate the design concepts in the development lab, and often with in-field testing.
- Create detailed manufacturing prints, bill of materials and operating instructions for all products and improvements while interfacing with Sales, Manufacturing, and Procurement to insure an integrated, efficient product roll-out.
What they are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering and at least co-op designing mechanical products for manufacture (Associates Degree with 3+ years of design experience)
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes for the Ag Equipment industry is a plus.
- High level of proficiency drafting in 3D environment, they use SolidWorks.
- Attention to detail. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
