Job Description

We are looking for an experienced full-time Optician to join our team in Rochester. Experience preferred; however, we are willing to train the right motivated candidate.

What does this position do?

Are you always following the latest trends in eyewear, and are you fascinated with the way corrective lenses work or the optical industry? If so, we may have the right job for you as an optician in our expanding Ophthalmology and Optometric practice. The ideal person must be able to work with our large base of customers by delivering quality optical care and outstanding and friendly customer service. You must be able to assist patients with eyeglass fittings, contact lens I&R’s, and other optical dispensing. You must also possess strong sales skills by demonstrating a high level of knowledge about our products and determining our patients’ needs for eyewear so you can recommend specific accessories or enhancements for glasses.

Ideal candidates will have excellent attendance and work ethic, the ability to work independently or in a team environment and the desire to do great work.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)
  • Sales Experience: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Optical Experience: 2 years (Preferred)
  • ABO/NCLE Certification (Preferred)
  • Possess advanced customer service skills.
  • Motivated to stay current with eyewear trends
  • Ability to evaluate customer’s prescriptions and visual requirements.
  • Ability to recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit client needs.
  • Ability to verify that finished lenses are ground to specifications.
  • Ability to measure clients' bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes, using measuring devices.
  • Skilled at selling goods such as contact lenses, spectacles, sunglasses, and other goods related to eyes in general.
  • Ability to assist clients in selecting frames according to style and color and ensure that frames are coordinated with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions.
  • Ability to heat, shape, or bend plastic or metal frames to adjust eyeglasses to fit clients, using pliers and hands.
  • Ability to show customers how to insert, remove, and care for their contact lenses.
  • Ability to determine customer’s current lens prescriptions, when necessary, using lensometer or lens analyzers and customer’s eyeglasses.
  • Ability to maintain records of customer prescriptions, work orders, and payments.
  • Ability to instruct clients in how to wear and care for eyeglasses.
  • Ability to order and purchase frames and lenses.
  • Ability to perform administrative duties such as tracking inventory and sales, submitting customer insurance information, and performing simple clerical tasks.
  • Have high integrity; be reliable and hard-working.

  • The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, ranging from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, with a one-hour lunch break, and an occasional Saturday.
