Job Summary and Qualifications

This OR cohort will start on January 23, 2023.

Important things to keep in mind:

  • This cohort is 22 weeks in length – 9 weeks of classroom training and 13 weeks of unit based clinical preceptorship.
  • For the first 9 weeks, attendance is mandatory for all scheduled training dates to remain in the program. The schedule will typically be Monday – Friday from 8 am - 5 pm.
  • Shift selections are not guaranteed and will be determined based off business needs. Shifts may not be determined until after cohort starts.
  • Internal candidates must interview and have accepted offers within 3 weeks of the cohort start date for which you are applying for.

Interactive classroom lectures/discussions 

  • Didactic trainingintroduces nurses to core curriculum and hospital initiatives in a classroom setting (10 weeks)
  • Simulation trainingreinforces nursing skills learned in the didactic setting (1 week)
  • Hands on trainingwith a facility preceptor in your nursing unit (12 weeks)

AORN Perioperative 101 Core Curriculum – Lessons covering a wide range of topics relevant to Perioperative nursing.

  • Curriculum based on evidence-based practice, National Standards, and the HCA Healthcare Clinical Standards of Excellence
  • Surgical Positioning
  • Scrubbing, gowning and gloving
  • Drain Identification, Instrument Identification and counting, and sponge counts
  • Basic Dysrhythmia 
  • AHA Basic Life Support / Advanced Cardiac Life Support 
  • Meditech (EHR) hands‐on training 
  • Critical Care medication management 
  • TeamSTEPPS® training 

What qualifications you will need:
  • Recent graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Graduate within the previous 12 - 18 months 
  • Candidates must have previous acute care experience
  • Independently maintains license
  • Acquires required contact hours to maintain license
  • Must be licensed by the state of California prior to scheduling an interview 
  • Training will include BLS/ACLS certification 
  • Self-motivated and strong communication skills required 
  • Acceptance into the program requires a two-year commitment to West Hills Medical Center
