Job Description
As a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Hematology, your relationship with Mayo Clinic will begin with a comprehensive 3 month orientation. You will have ongoing development which will include training and mentoring by Physicians, Fellows and NP and PA colleagues. You will have an opportunity to utilize your Internal Medicine skills and provide care to complex hematology patients.
Here you will be part of a growing Hematology department - expanding its hospital practice model through expansion of its Advanced Practice Provider (APP) group to provide greater patient continuity of care. You will work alongside exceptional consultants and fellows providing care to complex hematology patients. You will utilize your internal medicine skills through the management of inpatient complications including infectious diseases, cardiology, nephrology, and neurology. You will have an opportunity to assist in the management of hematologic diseases and side effects of chemotherapies. And opportunities to learn and grow through teaching and mentoring provided by the fellows and consultants through daily team rounds, lectures and case based discussions.
Position description
Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants will work collaboratively as a part of a multidisciplinary team and operate with a high level of autonomy. In this role, you will provide a comprehensive patient assessment, ordering and interpreting of appropriate laboratory tests and radiologic exams, diagnosis, treatment and management of chemotherapy side effects, and medical co-morbidities. You will be expected to manage side effects and complications from underlying co-morbidities, hematologic disease and therapy, while collaborating with a consultant Hematologist and fellow. You will consult and make referrals to physicians and other members of the health care team as appropriate and coordinate discharge planning. In addition, you will provide educational support to patients and their families. You serve as mentors to fellow allied health professionals during their first year of practice. Additional opportunities to participate in research are available along with quality improvement projects. Professional growth opportunities include, educating and precepting students, poster and journal club presentations, pursuing leadership and development through achieving academic rank, as well as presenting at our APP Hematology continuing education course.
The Hematology hospital practice functions 24/7 with rotating holidays, weekends and night coverage. Additional compensation will be provided for evening, weekend and night coverage.
Qualifications
Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program.
Current Minnesota RN license and certification as a ACNP or ANP preferred.
FNP certification, prefer hospital-based nursing experience in Hem-Onc/BMT, ICU, Cardiology or Internal Medicine.
Or graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice.
Must be eligible for DEA registration.
Additional qualifications
BLS and ACLS required prior to start date.
