(LGHA) has delivered decade-long commitment to helping save and improve patients’ lives and to giving back to the extended community they call home. LGHA is a 204-bed acute care facility located in Low Moor, Virginia who serves patients in both Virginia and West Virginia, offering a full range of medical specialties – from emergency medicine to general surgery. They are also home to the Senior Transitions program – a 15-bed specialty unit for seniors with emotional and behavioral issues requiring short-term acute stabilization.At the same time, they are an important part of LewisGale Regional Health System – an integrated network of closely aligned patient-care facilities that consistently rank among the top in the nation for patient care.
The Patient Safety Attendant (PSA) participates in high-quality, patient-centered care by providing continuous observation and monitoring of high risk patients. In collaboration with the patient care team, the PSA ensures the patient environment is free of obstacles and minimize risk of falls and accidental or intentional self-harm, The PSA may also assist with basic activities of daily living.
Job duties and responsibilities for this role include:
Accountable and Responsible for Clinical Judgement
- Provides consistent, direct observation of assigned patients
- Assures safe environment for patient at all times
- Remains with patient at all times including observation during toileting, procedures and testing both in and out of room
- Intervenes as needed to prevent patient from harming self or others.
- Seeks immediate assistance, as needed, in order to maintain safe environment for self, patient and others.
- Documents required information according to hospital policy
- Communicates effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.
- Stays abreast of new information pertaining to hospital/unit function and policies.
- Adheres to hospital and unit policies
Duty to Self and Others through Clinical Inquiry
- Professionally resolves or seeks assistance for problems and conflict.
- Timely collaborates with the healthcare team to report critical information or change in condition.
- Attends staff meetings, completes annual educational requirements, and other specified learning activities on time.
- Demonstrates professional caring practices through sensitivity, respect, engagement, and assessing for patient and family satisfaction.
- Promote a safe and therapeutic atmosphere for patients, co-workers, other departments and customers.
- Promotes comfort and prevents suffering through presence and attentiveness.
- Promotes a culture of safety.
- Demonstrates and promotes hospital Mission, Vision, Philosophy and Core Values.
- Communicates professionally with other team members and colleagues by following approved methods of communication as applicable.
Attends staff meetings as required.
- Promote a work environment that is free from harassment.
- A professional role model within the community when representing the organization.
Experience/Education:
- 1 + years of experience in a healthcare setting is preferred
- High School Diploma or GED is preferred
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required upon hire or within 90 days of employment
- CPI training is required upon hire or within 90 days of employment
Hours:
- Full-time
