Job Description

Our client is seeking a Payroll Manager with experience in a high-volume, multi-state environment to join their team. The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Payroll Department, implementing payroll-related projects focused on continuous improvement, and ensuring the payroll function operates in compliance with all policies, procedures, laws and other applicable requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Implements and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
  • Ensure Payroll Team is aware of regulatory changes impacting the payroll process
  • Ensure the payroll processing team is cross-trained with at least 2 backup
  • Identify and implement procedural changes designed to ensure or improve regulatory compliance and improve team efficiency and accuracy
  • Provide support for internal financial reporting, risk reporting, general ledger entries, and payroll tax compliance.
  • Respond to surveys and field inquiries regarding reporting
  • Research and maintain compliance for existing and new market acquisitions in areas such as wage and hour, work permits, and garnishments.
  • Oversee training of new hires and provide ongoing mentoring of payroll team regarding payroll regulatory requirements
  • Create and maintain payroll processes, and procedures, and recommend/implement improvements to sustain an effective delivery of payroll
  • Ensure the payroll team timely follow-through on operations and employee request affecting all payroll-related issues
  • Maintain documented proof of executed controls and audits

Requirements:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Must have 3+ years of work experience in a high-volume (3,000+ employees) and fast-paced payroll department including 3+ years of direct supervision of 5 or more employees in a leadership capacity
  • SAP or other ERP software (Oracle, PeopleSoft, Lawson, etc.) experience is preferred but not required
  • Payroll certification (FPC or CPP) is preferred
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively across departments
  • Proficiency with multiple payroll systems (ADP, WorkDay, etc.)
  • Multi-site, multi-state payroll experience a plus
  • Experience with acquisitions/integrations and working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment a plus
