Primary Purpose
 

Responsible for coordinating, organizing and facilitating Performance Improvement activities for assigned areas throughout the Health System. Provides the enterprise with expertise and guidance related to quality and performance improvement methodology as well as process improvement methodology. Primary driver of performance improvement projects at all levels in the organization. Collates and summarizes information related to all PI projects in assigned areas, identifies key areas for continuous improvement, and effectively prioritizes project workload.

Minimum Specifications
 

Education

  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree preferably in Nursing, or a clinically related field of study, Industrial Engineering or Business from an accredited college or university.
  • Prefer a Master's Degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or a related field of study from an accredited college or university.
     

Experience

  • 2 plus years of quality/performance improvement experience in a healthcare setting.
  • 1 plus years of project management experience.
  • Prefer: 3 plus years of clinical experience in an acute care setting.
     

Equivalent Education and/or Experience
 

Certification/Registration/Licensure

  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) Certification through the National Association for Healthcare Quality strongly preferred but not required.
  • Lean / Six Sigma Methodology green belt or higher strongly preferred.

  • Must be able to apply professional judgment as needed to prioritize work to achieve a consistent professional written work product and optimal productivity.
  • Must be able to establish effective, respectful and collegial working relationships with all internal and external customers including but not limited to physicians and employees.
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent professional etiquette, and adherence to the behavioral standards, dress code, attendance policy and code of conduct at all times.


 

Responsibilities

  1. Applies appropriate performance improvement methodology to drive and support performance improvement activities at all levels across the health system.
  2. Works efficiently independently and within an interdisciplinary team environment.
  3. Responsible for process and technology tracking improvements in cross-functional team settings in order to enhance productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  4. Responsible for support of assigned areas and departmental Performance Improvement Committees (PICs) to meet quality and performance improvement project goals and objectives.
  5. Work with assigned departmental PICs to establish projects, metrics, standards and dashboards, and to collect, organize, monitor, and evaluate quality, operational and service line performance data.
  6. Conduct data analysis to determine performance trends in order to proactively recommend improvements and/or corrective actions.
  7. Influences and communicates with all levels of clinical, financial, and operational management concerning team goals and progress.
  8. Serves as a resource to assigned areas on the appropriate application of QI tools, PDSA and other performance improvement methodology.
  9. Responsible for recommending performance measures and targets for each project.
  10. Works with other QPS departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities (thereby providing alternative methods of addressing issues related to compliance with standards or regulatory requirements/policies).
  11. Participates in other quality programs as indicated or necessary to bring about resolution (e.g., Patient Safety, Medical Records, Medication Use, Utilization Review, and Quality Review Committees, etc.)
  12. Collects and analyzes data for inclusion in easily digestible reports to key stakeholders across organization.
  13. Participates in a national network of performance improvement professionals, sharing best practices, tools and materials while participating in ongoing communication activities and capacity building peer exchanges.
  14. Searches out best performance and quality improvement practices and identifies opportunities for implementation.
  15. Understands the health system’s annual QAPI Plan and educates stakeholders regarding its content and significance.
  16. Ensures adherence to annual QAPI Plan during PI activities throughout all levels of the health system.
  17. Promotes cross-departmental communication, collaboration, and performance improvement as a means of achieving cost-effective, high quality care.
  18. Interprets and broadly communicates PI project results and shared learnings to all levels of the health system.
     

Job Accountabilities

  1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
