Job Description

  • Based on working knowledge of all machinery within area, perform a diversified range of moderately complex tasks related to the preparation of specimens by instrumental methods.
  • ·Analyses consist of several complex steps, including type correction standards, and are completed under moderate supervision. Inspect test specimens for acceptable quality criteria, rejecting poor quality test specimens, and requesting replacement samples from internal customers as required.
  • Prepare test specimens for analysis using various equipment.
  • Responsible for all Quality Control Testing and Procedures at designated location.
  • Act as the Laboratory Supervisor responsible for all laboratory functions and training of laboratory personnel.
  • Assist and provide input in the establishment of Critical to Quality measures (CTQ), Key Process Characteristics (KCC), Key Control Characteristics (KCC), control plans and FMEA.
  • Increase customer satisfaction by reducing claims, remakes, scrap and deviations from standard work
  • Participate in inspection, measurement, and sampling method improvements (MSA).
  • Develop Work Instructions for Hourly Employee
  • Ensures compliance to customer and industry requirements including Nadcap (HT, MTL, UT), AS9100, AS9120, ISO 17025, ASTM and European Directive as well as other standards based on business requirements.
  • Maintain Customer Samples.
  • Coordinates and schedules Outside Calibrations and 3rd Party Testing
  • Perform prescribed routine preventative maintenance checks, corrective maintenance and adjust as required on various sample preparation machinery and auxiliary equipment. Properly identify samples and retain or discard these samples according to standard operating procedure. Accurately perform analysis of furnace and product specimens. Maintain these instruments according to intervals required by SOP. Review test data and apply appropriate corrections based on certified reference material analyses or other statistical means.
  • Develops departmental plans including business, production and/or organizational priorities.
  • Manages resources to ensure financial and operational objectives are met
  • Ensure laboratory compliance
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED FOR THE QUALITY SUPERVISOR

  • Four-year degree in a technical field, with a major Mechanical, Metallurgy or Industry Engineering preferred. High School Diploma required.
  • 5+ years of relevant quality experience required.
  • Experience supporting interaction with customers, suppliers and third party auditors related to quality system and product related issues as well as developing relationships with key customers and identifying emerging needs.

PREFERRED FOR THE QUALITY SUPERVISOR

  • Lab supervisory experience is highly preferred.
  • Applicable knowledge of chemical lab testing procedures and knowledge of using instrument software and applying type correction to results.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement and root cause problem solving methodologies.
  • Ability to manage, lead, coach and objectively evaluate the performance of others as well as mentor, direct and strengthen the organizational effectiveness of the Quality group.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions. Results oriented and have the ability to handle multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to organize tasks and follow established priorities for processing samples and make appropriate decisions.
  • Willingness to improve quality through structured continuous improvement processes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to raise the awareness level of employees concerning customers' and industry quality requirements and ability to travel as needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, well organized and the ability to prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Willing to work in a fast paced, every changing work environment.
