Nurse Educator RN Surgical Services

Full Time

Location: Springfield, MA

Salary: $95,000- $105,000 Annually

The Nurse Educator, Surgical Services will be responsible for advance nursing excellence throughout the Operating Room, Endoscopy and Same Day Ambulatory Surgery Center. The Surgical Services RN Nurse Educator will provide clinical instruction to surgical services nursing staff in order to improve their performance and efficiency. The RN Educator, Surgical Services will teach both theory and skills related to various surgical procedures that are part of the service as well as follow-up care instructions for post-operative patients. The Surgery Nurse Educator will lead quality improvement QI initiatives, precept and orient new nurses while supporting the mission and goals of the hospital.

  • Provides direct and responsive support for urgent educational needs.
  • Participates in all aspects of Surgical Services education activities, including but not limited to lectures, meetings, and clinical sessions.
  • Promotes and adheres to the organization's mission, vision, values, and ethical standards.
  • Works collaboratively with others to develop and maintain teaching/learning materials.
  • Experienced in clinical assessment, development and documentation of evidence-based practice.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with little supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Demonstrates excellent problem solving skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Develops and maintains mission-critical information extraction, analysis, and management systems.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of evidence-based practice (EBP) and surgical services.
  • Expands own knowledge of surgical services by reading, learning, and participating in educational opportunities.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety and education through active participation in EBP initiatives.
  • Presents new ideas to improve quality outcomes in a way that enhances patient safety and experience.
  • Advises surgical team members on appropriate EBP practices and procedures.
  • Acts as a liaison between patients, physicians, caregivers, nurses, and other professionals.
  • Builds relationships with patients and staff and demonstrates trustworthiness and leadership.
  • May provide administrative support for the nursing unit or department.
