Staff members at Our Client are their greatest asset! We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Nursing Coordinator. The Nursing Coordinator Registered Nurse directs all health-related services for group homes, Day Habilitation Program, Hawthorne Country Day School and the Manhattan Campus. Supervises and instructs all staff members who provide health related care.
The Ideal candidate will have: Required experience: Knowledge and experience in the field of developmental disabilities as a nurse. Knowledge of Therap System preferred. Experience in the school setting a plus. Bachelors required, Masters Preferred. 5 years of nursing experience and supervisory experience in the field. Required license or certification: Certification by the State of New York as a Registered Nurse
- The Registered Nurse participates in counseling and teaching of consumers, students, their families, and staff on topics such as personal hygiene, family life, dental care, sex education and safety education.
- The Registered Nurse participates in planning and implementation of training for all personnel providing direct care.
- Updates and develops programs policies and procedures for Health Services Department for each program Dayhab, Residential and School.
- Ensures retention, review and maintain health records, immunization records, medical consultations and reports to achieve compliance with NYS OPWDD, NYSED, NYCDOE, OMIG rules, Medicaid and regulations.
- The Registered Nurse ensures all required medical and health related documentation is complete, current and maintained in a chart/file established for each consumer and student.
- Ensures documentation pertaining to changes in medical status is complete, comprehensive and current (e.g., illness, seizure activity or any other changes in health status that require medical assessment).
- The Registered Nurse ensures documentation of annual and semi-annual nurse's summaries is completed, at specified time interval in charts and Therap.
- Ensures each consumer's chart/file contains documentation denoting the level of ability to self-medicate annually in Therap.
- Ensures each consumer's chart/file contains documentation that the medication regimen has been reviewed semi-annually in Therap.
- The Registered Nurse observes the counting of controlled medication, pouring and distribution of medication.
- The Registered Nurse reviews documentation (physician orders, MAR's and controlled drug sheets) ensuring compliance and accuracy of medication /treatment administration in Therap.
- Recognizes and understands how cultural life style, family dynamic, economic, ethnic and environmental factors affect health.
- Provides first aid to consumers as needed and records in Therap.
- Participates as necessary on committees that oversee the health and safety of consumers and students of Hawthorne Foundation.
- Maintains compliance with budgetary requirements.
- Ensures all necessary paper work is completed.
- Ensures that written agreements with outside health care providers are maintained in compliance with New York State OPWDD rules and regulations.
- Ensures availability of nursing coverage of the IRA Group Homes, 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
- Ensures compliance with pharmaceutical policies and procedures.
- Attends symposiums that will increase knowledge base related to developmental disabilities and other medical related topics in this field or as necessary.
- Assume additional responsibilities as necessary to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all individuals we serve.
