The work involves responsibility for providing skilled nursing care requiring substantial specialized judgment in accordance with a prescribed nursing care plan. The work is performed under general supervision with leeway for independently performing nursing care duties. Supervision may be exercised over Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, Home Health Aides and other subordinate staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Either: (A) License and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; or (B) Possession of a valid limited permit* to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. NOTE: Pursuant to New York State Education Law, Article 139, graduates of schools of nursing registered by the department may be employed to practice nursing under the supervision of a registered professional nurse and with the endorsement of the employing agency for ninety (90) days immediately following graduation from a nursing program and pending receipt of a limited permit for which an application has been filed. *Such limited permit shall expire one year from the date of issuance or upon notice to the applicant that the application has been denied or ten days after notification to the applicant of failure of licensing exam.
