WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a Research Analyst within BCG’s Data and Research Service (DRS) function, you will take work upon complex research projects independently within our Industrial Goods/Energy practice area. You will proactively understand the context of the research ask and deliver actionable insights for BCG’s case proposals, ongoing cases, and business or internal development initiatives. You will demonstrate a deep understanding of the Practice Area to BCG’s Case and Knowledge teams. Over time, you will narrow down to a set of 2-3 topics and research areas of focus based on a mix of research interests and/or case exposures, which will help you provide value-added research support to our Case and Knowledge teams.
BCG’s Industrial Goods/Energy practice serves clients across various industries incl. Automotive, Engineered Products & Infrastructure, Materials & Process Industries, Oil & Gas, Power & Utilities, Transportation & Logistics, etc. As part of DRS, we help clients think beyond the limits of their traditional business models, choose where and how they should add value, and reorganize to defend themselves against new threats and exploit new opportunities.

YOU'RE GOOD AT

Delivering insightful research outputs
  • You will deliver high-quality research on inbound (and curated) research requests for case/topic teams
  • Identify opportunities to deliver "beyond-the-ask" and to deliver more dimension with coordination with seniors in the team (Senior Research Analyst and/or Research Lead)
  • You will demonstrate the ability to engage with Case and Knowledge team requestors on uncovering the 'real ask' (why is the information needed) and delivering ready to use materials/suggest opinions for use on the case/topic teams
Developing and demonstrating client-responsiveness
  • You will proactively build capabilities and tool familiarity required to support case delivery and propose value-adds
  • You will network with and build a strong rapport with Associates and Consultants in Case teams and Senior Knowledge Analysts and Lead Knowledge Analysts in the Knowledge teams within the context of cases/requests
  • Over time, you will identify 2 or 3 topics and research areas of focus based on a mix of research interests and/or case exposures
Providing guidance to juniors
  • You will serve as 'buddy' and first point-of-contact for juniors (Research Associates) for research methods, sources, and output expectations
  • Equip and guide Research Associates on resources, templates, systems/processes to utilize in ensuring high-quality delivery on research requests
  • Provide quality assurance support and coverage

YOU BRING (EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS)

  • 2-3 years of relevant working experience, in industrial goods/energy topics i.e., automotive, oil & gas, infrastructure, power & utilities, chemicals, transportation, etc.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific databases such as IHS Markit, Bloomberg, Eikon, Capital IQ, is desirable
  • Excellent English; verbal and written
  • Ability to work with wide array of platforms including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; to be able to provide insights in the most user-friendly format
  • Graduate degree in economics, engineering, sciences; Master’s degree will be a plus

The Data and Research Services (DRS) function is a dynamic and highly visible center of excellence focused on business research and process innovation. We collaborate with our consulting teams to bring advanced research capabilities to support projects and clients. DRS provides specialist research services to consulting teams and our Knowledge Team, taking deep pride in delivering rapid and precise results.
DRS works with both qualitative and quantitative data, conducting research and providing synthesized results from over 100 commercial sources, publicly available data, company and industry research, macro-economic, commodities, and trade data.
