Job Duties

Work directly with the Nurse Manager and Director to implement strategic planning initiatives for the department.

Ensure the quality of each study managed in accordance with the study contract, informed consent forms, case reports, and other protocol related documents as per applicable regulatory requirements for all studies.

Successfully manage multiple studies and the teams performing those studies.

Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Magnet standards. Works collaboratively with manager to integrate unit Magnet plan into culture. Facilitates staff knowledge of Magnet principles and integrates staff roles into the shared governance model

Demonstrates personal work characteristics as recognized by St. Elizabeth Healthcare as stated in the associate handbook. Maintains professionalism at all times and acts/serves as a role model/coach/mentor

Research Nurse Duties: Coordinate clinical research studies conducted by the principal investigator. Has a thorough understanding of the protocols. Educate and provide in-service to associates in the Medical Center that will be affected by the study. Network with physicians to open new studies at St. Elizabeth and to promote the research program within the community. Work directly with principal investigator to design appropriate recruitment strategies, communication plan, and patient safety monitoring plan. Consent and enroll patients. Conduct research visits and record data. Assist with documentation and submission for IRB approvals. Work directly with the sponsors, monitors and ensure compliance. Obtain study biologics.

Performs duties within the scope of the appropriate state Nurse Practice Act and conducts research studies according to the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) and US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and guidelines. Follows Good Clinical Practices, Good Laboratory Practices, St Elizabeth Healthcare policies, and maintains related certifications.

Monitors associate satisfaction and keeps Manager informed of potential issues/opportunities. Provides input into associate action plan and ensures facilitation on shift. Provides input into performance appraisals and into counseling/disciplinary action (cannot do independently)

Effectively communicates with staff, physicians, patients, families, and personnel in the department and other areas to promote effective working relationships. Assumes advocacy role on behalf of families and assists in complaint resolution

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM

DESIRABLE

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

BSN Required.

Graduate from accredited School of Nursing, licensed to practice in the state of Kentucky. Meets contact hour requirements for licensure, including all state-required courses.

MSN desirable. Clinical Research certification and / or Oncology certification.

Specialized Knowledge:

Ability to direct self and others. Aware of Nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocols. Knowledgeable of the organization’s mission, vision, values. Demonstrates clinical proficiency

Knowledge of leadership concepts, and the organization’s strategic plans

Kind and Length of Experience:

5 year’s related experience in specialty area

Knowledge of clinical specialty and demonstrated leadership ability.
