Job Description

Purpose:

To assist licensed staff by performing a variety of functions in the Rehabilitation

Department under the direction and supervision of the Licensed Physical Therapist, the

Physical Therapist Assistant, the Registered Occupational Therapist, the Certified

Occupational Assistant and the Speech-Language Pathologist to ensure that quality care

is being provided to each resident.

 

Qualifications:

ï Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

ï Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate

to the age-related needs of the residents served.

ï Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team

work and team concept.

ï Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances

warrant such action.

ï Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family

members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.

ï Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other

personnel.

ï Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the

willingness to handle difficult residents.

ï Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.

ï Ability to understand instruction and execute assigned tasks.

ï Ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve problems and work with a

variety of variables and to interpret instruction presented in various forms.

ï Software knowledge - Outlook, Excel, Word etc.

 

Essential Job Functions:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

 

Administrative Functions

ï Performs department secretarial functions as directed.

ï Assists with computerized billing, billing documentation processes, and clinical

documentation processes, as requested.

ï Adheres to department procedures regarding documentation of services.

ï Use the wristband or photo card file to identify residents before administering

treatments, etc., as necessary.

ï Report all changes in the resident’s condition to Rehab personnel as soon as

practical.

ï Confers formerly and informally with other team members in coordinating the

administrative functions of patient care.

ï Report all accidents and incidents you observe on the shift that they occur.

ï Agree not to disclose assigned user ID code and password for accessing

resident/facility information and promptly report suspected or known violations of

such disclosure to the Administrator.

ï Report any known or suspected unauthorized attempt to access facility’s

information system.

 

Admission, Transfer, and Discharge Functions

ï Greet residents and escort them to Rehab room or to the receiving area.

ï Transports residents to and from the Rehabilitation department for scheduled

treatments in a timely and safe manner as requested.

ï Assist with loading/unloading residents from vehicles as necessary.

 

Rehab Care Functions

ï Assists with resident treatments assigned by the licensed therapist (e.g. exercise

routines, tilt table activities, group therapy, ambulation skills, skills related to

activities of daily living (ADLs), and application of treatment modalities).

ï Prepares residents for treatment as instructed by supervising therapist.

ï Reports changes in tolerance or medical status prior to each treatment to the

supervising therapist.

ï Maintains open communication with supervising therapist regarding the resident’s

requests, needs, and responses to treatment

ï Maintains department in a neat, clean, orderly, and safe manner.

o Cleaning of gym equipment daily and durable medical equipment as

needed.

o Reporting to the supervising therapist any needs for repair.

o Assisting in inventory of equipment and supplies.

o Other maintenance duties, as requested.

ï Assist with setting up treatment areas by:

o Distributing linen to the appropriate areas.

o Preparing treatment mats and beds.

o Organizing equipment and materials within treatment areas.

o Preparing the hydrotherapy area for treatment.

o Other preparation, as requested.

ï Organizes work area and work in progress so that minimum delay results with

interruptions or confusion.

 

Personnel Functions & Staff Development

ï Assists with and participates in quality assurance programs as required.

ï Reports to work on time and adheres to schedule, maintaining work efficiency

during assigned shift.

ï Assists in orienting new rehabilitation technicians to company and facility

policies and procedures.

ï Communicates orally or in writing with clarity and accuracy.

ï Attend and participate in scheduled training and educational classes to maintain

current certification as a Nursing Assistant.

ï Attend and participate in scheduled orientation programs and activities.

ï Attend and participate in facility in-service meetings and training programs as

instructed.

 

Safety and Sanitation

ï Wash hands before and after performing any service for the resident.

ï Maintains safe and clean work area and adheres to facility/company safety

standards.

ï Clean, disinfect, and return all resident care equipment to its designated storage

area after each use.

ï Report all hazardous conditions and equipment to the Supervising Therapist

immediately.

ï Report all safety violations.

ï Report any communicable or infectious disease to the Director of Nursing

Services and/or to the Infection Control Coordinator.

ï Wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies (e.g., back brace, mechanical lifts,

etc.) when lifting or moving residents.

 

Equipment and Supply Functions

ï Use only the equipment you have been trained to use and operate in a safe

manner.

ï Report defective equipment to the Supervising Therapist

ï Maintains departmental equipment and supplies and inform the Supervising

Therapist of your equipment and supply needs.
