Job Summary

Direct field operations during Wildfire Response. Provide wildfire technical oversight and contribute professional wildfire expertise to support Program service during and outside of wildfire response operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership/Supervision

  • Review fire information and determine wildfire threat.
  • Recommend response actions with Client Relations Managers.
  • Direct and manage Wildfire Response resources, including Alliance Network Partners, during response operations.
  • Ensure safe field operations from remote location
  • Manage field resource scheduling (once assigned by the Deputy Director) and hold them accountable to Insurer Program mission(s)
  • Direct Program tasks in compliance with Insurer Program Manual
  • Quality Assurance on fire update
  • Resolve access issues
  • Conduct and/or coordinate field resource evaluations
  • Ensuring Program Lead Specialists receive field data during response operations.
  • Support the Deputy Director for training of Alliance Partner(s) and Field Staff.
  • Review Daily Fire Situation Report.
  • Prepare Weekly and Monthly Fire Prognosis
  • Participate in (lead on weekends) Daily Planning Call.
  • Determine daily Duty Officer alert distance for Lead Central.
  • Coordinate with the Deputy Director for staffing and equipment needs.
  • Participate in weekly Duty Officer meeting

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure daily safety meeting are conveyed to field crews
  • Complete all assigned safety trainings
  • Operate vehicles within local laws, DOT standards, NWCG regulations, and WDS safe vehicle operating standards
  • Ensure compliance with all safety practices and procedures for self and those around you
  • Account for health, safety, and welfare for self and those around you

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position supervises others.
  • This position will act as a supervisor to Liaison’s, Engine Bosses, Firefighter Type 2 and Firefighter Type I during fire events and on Dedicated Service

Culture 

  • Responsible for supporting and promoting a professional culture within the Department.
  • Promotes, advances, and supports a culture of safety through the adherence to the employee health and safety program;
  • Provides leadership and support to firefighters and coworkers
  • Exhibits adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Enforces and models WDS culture, professionalism and image.
  • Achieve goals related to professional development of employees to LOFR, ENGB and FFT1.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to pass Work Capacity Test at appropriate level.
  • DOT Medical Examiner’s Certification (will be authorized by employer for qualified individuals)
  • Current driver’s license with acceptable driving record if driving
  • ICS qualified at the minimum one or more of the following levels: TFLD, STLD, DIVS, ENGB, ICT3, LOFR.
  • Other documentation/ certifications considered on case-by-case basis

  • Maintain excellent communications between field resources, IMT or AHJ, other Duty Officers and Fire Officers, Deputy Director, and CRM’s
  • Computer skills with Google Earth, Excel, Word

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Field (time to time): While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee infrequently could be asked to stand; walk on uneven ground, steep slopes, and/or uneven rocky terrain with thick tangled vegetation; bend; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; carry items weighing over 50 pounds; work in smoky conditions with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees; and excessive noise.
  • Office: Physical requirements include: Sitting and working at a desk for extended periods of time, viewing and working on a computer for long periods of time, occasionally lifting up to 20#, occasionally bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weights up to 20#, occasionally standing for extended periods of time.

Working Hours

  • Full-time schedule will generally be 40 hours per week. During peak fire season this position will require irregular and extended hours as needed to meet changing conditions and operational requirements. As an hourly employee, overtime will be paid.
  • On-Call expectation is a condition of employment during peak season.
