The Sr. Manager, Operations is responsible for developing and executing manufacturing strategy, aligned with our global standard, and allowing sustainable and successful achievement of budget and customer satisfaction objectives. The Sr. Manager, Operations ensures the production and quality goals are met by collaborating with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Human Resources to execute manufacturing, capital equipment, and talent strategies for the site.
The Sr. Manager, Operations role requires high levels of problem-solving ability, deep technical skills, and impactful leadership and organization savviness allowing the leader to be effective in a complex, matrix organization design. The Sr. Manager, Operations must have the leadership agility to dive deep into problems and create talent on their teams allowing the director to empower others to take on full responsibility for results and growth.
The Sr. Manager is responsible for supporting the development and execution of manufacturing strategy, aligned with our global standard, and allowing sustainable and successful achievement of budget and three-year business strategy, financial and customer satisfaction objectives.
The Sr. Manager is a critical member of the Site Leadership team and will be responsible for building systems and relationships that bring world class process and business service levels to the site.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Supports and Ensures Integrity and Compliance
- Ensures business meets all corporate compliance commitments - financial, ethics and legal and regulatory including medical device regulations aligned with and supported by the product quality and regulatory compliance officer. Quality and Regulatory Compliance is of utmost importance in Orchid and the orthopedic manufacturing industry. - Develops and Maintains Strategic Customer Relationships
- Builds trustful relationships with strategic customer base at senior operations, supply chain, and purchasing levels required for success.
- Understands strategic customer's supply chain models and challenges with implementing chosen supply chain models. Develops plans to resolve customer challenges
- Customer interactions are deep and trustful, based on ongoing commitment achievement, and strategic alignment to our customer.
- Creates relationships where Orchid is the preferred customer supplier.
- Develops and implements Manufacturing Strategy
- Ensure the execution of the supply and capacity planning process and commitment to allowing installation of talent and equipment before demand arrives. Collaborates to build labor strategies, based on deep analytics, including demand variation, surge capacity understanding, training periods, and retention rates.
- Critical role in defining the footprint, plant charters, manufacturing processes, cell designs. standardized equipment, and any other process/people strategies required to execute our growth roadmap.
- Supports Achievement of Financial and Operating Plan Goals
- Aligns annual operating target goals to capacity and manufacturing strategy.
- Ensures processes are in place to deliver annual and strategic objectives, including but not limited to productivity funnels, capacity planning, footprint development, and supply planning.
- Implements a robust management operating system which quickly highlights necessary adjustment to the cross-functional team, providing confidence that strategic and operational goals will be successfully implemented.
- Leads Culture Development and Talent Management Processes and Results
- Leads Safety through example with complying with safe practices and ensuring compliance and hazard awareness and mitigation with team and indirect reports.
- Leads Supervisors and employees directly engaged in shop-floor processes or operations. Ensures that the process/area maintains operations by managing employee performance and absences.
- Aligns direct and indirect reports priorities. Works with functional leaders when alignment is not obvious. Aligns with functional leadership on employee performance, while supporting functional leaders' operational and strategic agendas. Transparently works with functional leaders to ensure Orchid employees are fully contributing to achieving company vision, purpose, strategy and goals.
- Drives an improvement culture by focusing on "the process not the people" while demanding not only quick resolution but also root cause alignment and systematic corrective action implementation.
- Drives a performance culture by ensuring the right talent is in the right place at the right time to meet strategic and operational goals.
- Drives results by enabling our best team and utilizing Orchid's Talent Management processes for selecting, managing, and developing team members throughout the function and aligning goals and providing periodic feedback on results and Orchid values are imperative.
- Ensures systems are in place, permitting quick resolution of deviations in staffing, turnover, talent, or commitment.
- Leads Daily GEMBA for the area and ensures accuracy of daily metrics and drives to remove barriers to ensure results are met.
EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION QUALIFICIATIONS
- 5+ years of successful experience leading a functional organization and/or developing 2-discipline functional excellence. (Required)
- Bachelors Degree (required) Master's Degree (Strongly Preferred)
- 5+ years of increasing responsibility leading hourly and salaried professionals. (Required)
- 3+ years growing a business. Profit center, cost center, or program management experience is applicable. (Required)
- Demonstrated results in developing talent, organizational strategies, and management systems in a high revenue growth environment. (Required)
- Exposure to and participation in integrated business planning (Sales & Operations Planning process), quality system deployment, and lean manufacturing in an industrial setting. (Required)
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS THAT ENABLE SUCCESS
- Manufacturing Industry: Knowledge and understanding of industry developments, trends and experiences related to manufacturing of products or product components.
- Operational Functions: Strong business acumen, ability to develop long and short-term strategic plans and manage plans effectively. Ability to think horizontally (wide) and vertically (deep).
- Standard Statement (Problem Solving): Ability to apply logic and reasoning to solve problems, including identifying strengths/weaknesses, locating alternative solutions and conclusions, and approaches to problems; and making high-quality, timely decisions
- Effective Communication and/or Coaching: Strong communication skills: verbal, written, presentation and active listening. Ability to discern and appropriately communicate sensitive issues.
- Manufacturing Regulatory Environment: Knowledge of compliance and requirements for production and implementation in a regulated environment.
- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Critical thinking skills - including logic and reasoning, complex problem solving, including identification of strengths/weaknesses, locating alternative solutions and conclusions, and approaches to problems; and decision-making capabilities
- Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of detailed planning for implementing and monitoring lean manufacturing. Ability to use lean approaches across multiple functions.
- Training/Team Development: Ensure qualified and capable talent is in place to support organizational goals and Core Values; ability to lead and develop talent in a positive business culture - one in which our talent remains Orchid-represented.
- Performance Management: Ability to apply organization's performance management system, practices, and tools to developing and improving individual, team, and organizational performance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- This job operates in a manufacturing environment. This role routinely moves about the facility to check-up on team members' progress and frequently operates a computer or other machinery as required.
