Primary Purpose Operates ultrasound equipment used to produce quality routine to diagnostic scans to ensure optimal patient care. Minimum Specifications Education Graduate from an accredited sonography program.

Experience

Sonographers working in Ultrasound must have a minimum of five years of sonography experience. Sonographers working in Women's Health must achieve six different items from the List of Activities to promote to level III or registered in Fetal Echocardiography from the ARDMS.

Equivalent Education and/or Experience

Education completed in sonography in another country with current abdomen credential from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists

- Sonography (ARRT(S)) and hospital sonography experience For Obstetrics and Gynecology: Graduation from a local sonography program that is may not yet be accredited with JRCDMS or CAAHEP, but CAAHEP but has a clinical relationship with Parkland and has completed clinical rotation in a Parkland Ultrasound Department.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

Sonographers working in Ultrasound must be registered in the sub specialty of abdomen [by ARDMS (RDMS (AB)) or ARRT (S)] and vascular sonography [by ARDMS RVT or CCI-RVS] as a condition of hire.

Sonographers working in Women's Health must be registered as a Sonographer by the ARDMS in the (OB/)GYN subspecialty within 12 months of hire date.

Sonographers working in Mammography must be registered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in the sub specialty of breast ultrasound (RDMS (BR)) as a condition of hire.

Must have a current Healthcare Provider CPR course completion card prior to hire and/or placement in job from one of the following: American Heart Association American Red Cross Rescuer Military Training Network.

Skills or Special Abilities

Must be able to operate various types of ultrasound equipment used in performing procedures.

Must be able to communicate effectively; written and verbally.

Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of both normal and abnormal anatomy.

Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.

Must be able to utilize and navigate applicable computer systems in order to complete workflows.
