Primary Purpose
Responsible for providing psychiatric assessments through personal interviews, review of records, interviews of third parties, and formal evaluation procedures in order to make/classify an accurate mental health diagnosis, ensuring optimal health by decreasing complications and expediting recovery.
 

Minimum Specifications
 

Education

  • Must have successfully completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Medical Association (AMA) approved residency for appropriate specialty.

Experience

  • None.

Equivalent Education and/or Experience
 

Certification/Registration/Licensure

  • Must be currently licensed for the practice of medicine in the State of Texas.
  • Must meet and maintain licensing and registration requirements as delineated by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Medical Staff Rules and Regulations, and Credentialing Policies/Procedures, if any.

  • Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the appropriate specialty practice (e.g. Psychiatry, Family Practice, and Internal Medicine) techniques and treatment processes.

  • Must be able to work effectively with other health care professionals and serve as a resource to the community.
  • Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behavior.
  • Preferred: Spanish proficiency is preferred
     

Responsibilities

  1. Provides psychiatric assessments through personal interviews, review of records, interviews of third parties, and formal evaluation procedures in order to make/classify an accurate mental health diagnosis. Identifies problems and determines plan of intervention to optimize service to internal and external customers of COPC, Dallas County Jail Health, Juvenile Justice System, Psychiatric Services and PHHS, while maintaining a positive working relationship during all contacts. Assesses and intervenes in crisis and emergency situations to minimize potential harm to patient and risk for PHHS.
  2. Provides psychiatric treatment through personal interaction to aid patients to relieve emotional distress/psychiatric symptoms, clarify patient goals/priorities, expand social support networks in group or family format and find adaptive solutions to current life problems, while interacting in a professional manner to assure optimal services are provided to the internal and external customers of PHHS.
  3. Maintains a positive working relationship with management, vendors, other hospitals, employees, patients, and patient’s families ensuring effective departmental operations and patient centered/patient valued health care services. Collaborates with referring providers/professional colleagues to better understand and address the needs of patients’ psychiatric and social needs. Refers patients to external or other internal service providers/clinics for appropriate continuation or follow up care/treatment. Educates patients and families to ensure proper self-management, follow-up, and compliance with established treatment.
  4. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the COPC, Dallas County Jail Health, Juvenile Justice System, Psychiatric Services and PHHS. Follows effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
  5. Provides a thorough and accurate written record of all therapy/counseling sessions, including a comprehensive report addressing patient’s presenting problems and current needs, and documentation of all relevant information/contacts pertaining to the patient while observing confidentiality laws and carrying out the goals and objectives as established for COPC, Dallas County Jail Health, Juvenile Justice System, Psychiatric Services and PHHS.
  6. Provides and evaluates medical education and training for residents, students, and mid-level staff, ensuring optimal level of training which meets the teaching resident guidelines for treating, diagnosing, and providing medical services. Serves as an expert clinical resource.
  7. Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, work flows, etc. for the COPC, Dallas County Jail Health, Juvenile Justice System, Psychiatric Services and PHHS. Modifies approach, communication and interaction to take account of sensory impairments and specific needs of all customers, in particular older adults. Recommends appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of the department and PHHS.
  8. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field of medicine and healthcare by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and maintaining licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  9. Provides direction and guidance to psycho-social team to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities, while providing optimal service to both internal and external customers.
  10. Participates in community services in order to promote PHHS as a patient centered/patient valued healthcare provider to the community and surrounding area.
  11. Participates in research and special projects in order to promote PHHS as a leader in the field of medicine and medical providers.
  12. Serves on various interdisciplinary committees as assigned.
