Come join us at St. Vincent’s Birmingham!  Surgical Technologists keep the operating room safe and organized. It’s their responsibility to make sure the surgical field is sterile, and to ensure that surgeons and surgical nurses have all the instruments and materials they need.

Position: Surgical Technologist 

Department: Main OR 

Schedule: Day Shift; 3-12’s, On Call Requirements

The main OR at St. Vincent’s is a state-of-the-art surgical facility boasts 16 operating suites and performs 45 – 50 procedures each day. Common surgical procedures include: robotic, ENT, gynecological, neurological, vascular, open heart, colorectal, plastic, and urology. While St. Vincent’s is not a trauma hospital, it is one of the first community hospitals to have the da Vinci® Surgical System robot.

Facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.

• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Hand required and requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor and track instruments counts throughout procedures.
• Assist surgeons provision of hemostasis during surgery.

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.

Education:

• High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Technical degree required.
