Job Description
The Systems Engineer is responsible for independently developing and assisting in the design of software that our Customers and Associates love. As a Systems Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic team with engineers of all experience levels who help each other build and grow technical and leadership skills while creating, deploying, and supporting production applications. In addition, you may be involved in configuration, security, resilience, performance tuning and production monitoring.
Responsibilities:
Delivery & Execution:
- Collaborates with other team members to create secure, reliable, and scalable software solutions
- Documents, reviews, and ensures that all quality and change control standards are met
- Works with Product owner to ensure user stories that are developer-ready, easy to understand, and testable
- Configures commercial off the shelf solutions to align with evolving business needs
- Creates meaningful dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to ensure that issues are captured and addressed proactively
Learning:
- Actively seeks ways to grow and be challenged using both formal and informal development channels.
- Learns through successful and failed experiment when tackling new problems
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Information Technology or similar required; MS/MA preferred
- 4-7 years of demonstrated experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a programming languages such as Java, Python etc.
- Experience in a modern web application framework such as Spring MVC or Node.js etc.
- Experience in writing SQL queries against a relational database
- Experience in a version control system (preferably Git)
- Experience in a Linux or Unix based environment
- Exposure to a CI/CD toolchain e.g. Jenkins
- Exposure to a cloud computing platform and the associated automation patterns they provide
- Exposure to production systems design including High Availability, Disaster Recovery, Performance, Efficiency, and Security
- Exposure to defensive coding practices and patterns for high-availability
- Exposure to a NoSQL database
- Exposure to query optimization and troubleshooting
- Understanding of modern microservice-based architectures and methodologies
- Exposure to 12-factor methodology and its benefits, and able to demonstrate appropriate patterns to more junior team members
- Exposure to REST and effective web service design
