Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Temporary Nurse Aide will help to provide aspects of resident care that include:
- Activities of Daily Living
- Bathing
- Oral Care
- Grooming - Shaving and Nail Care
- Dressing and Undressing
- Infection Control and Prevention
- Positioning, Moving, and Restorative Care
- Nutrition and Elimination
- Comfort Care and End of Life Care
2. Ensure that all procedures and protocols are followed in accordance with established policies, including dress code.
3. Provides assistance with activities of daily living to a specific number of residents and/or as directed by the staff nurse.
4. Reports all concerns, complaints made by the resident or their family to the Administrator.
5. Makes rounds to assure residents are safe and comfortable.
6. Maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
7. Participates in In-service Education Programs.
8. Recommends to the Director of Nursing the equipment and supply needs of the department.
9. Inventories and stores the new resident’s personal possessions.
10. Assists resident’s with packing personal possessions when they are transferred to a new room or when being discharged.
11. Participates in and receives the nursing report upon reporting for duty.
12. Maintains intake and output records as instructed. Checks and reports bowel movements and character of stools.
13. Makes occupied and unoccupied beds, changes bed linens, and straightens rooms, closet, and drawers. Notifies housekeeping if mattress in need of cleaning or replacement.
14. Answers call lights promptly, answer telephone calls as needed and run errands as requested.
15. Observes resident’s physical condition, attitude, reactions, appetite, etc., and reports any changes and/or unusual findings to the Nurse/RCC so care plan can be updated.
16. Performs personal services for resident’s (i.e., reading, writing letters, etc.) as time allows.
17. Encourages residents to help themselves and promotes self-care in aiding rehabilitation.
18. Assists with care of dying and expired residents.
19. Records resident food/fluid intake. Completes meal monitor form as indicated. Reports changes in resident's eating habits to the Staff Nurse.
20. Keeps resident’s water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water on each shift unless contraindicated.
21. Serves between meals and bedtime snacks.
22. Wears transfer belt at all times and utilizes as needed.
23. Keeps the nurses' call system within easy reach of the resident.
24. Reports all hazardous equipment and conditions to the Staff Nurse immediately.
25. Performs other related duties as assigned.
26. This position will remain in effect for the duration of the Gubernatorial Disaster Proclamations. This position will terminate after the Governor’s final COVID Disaster Proclamation expires or is rescinded.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 8 hours of classroom education on the specific services and procedures listed in the emergency rules.
- At least 8 hours of on-the-job training in the specific services and procedures listed in the emergency rules.
- Be at least 16 years of age, of temperate habits and good moral character, honest, reliable, and trustworthy.
- Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Demonstrates interest and/or knowledge in caring for the ill, disabled, and elderly. Must be able to deal tactfully with customers, family members, visitors, personnel etc.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
- Must be personable, enthusiastic, and personable.
