Responsibilities
In keeping with French Hospital Medical Center health care philosophy, the Unit Clerk/Scrub Technician for Labor and Delivery serves as unit receptionist, transcribes orders, orders tests, orders and monitors supply inventory, coordinates unit phone communication, and maintains medical records according to Standards. Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, the Unit Clerk/Scrub Technician performs unit support activities such as transporting patients, stocking shelves and cleaning work areas. Reports observations regarding patient status to the registered nurse. Demonstrates surgical knowledge and assists surgical team during operative procedure. Arranges sterile set-up and maintains good aseptic technique. Counts needles, sponges and instruments with circulating nurses. Cares for operative specimens. Assumes responsibility for equipment. Primarily cares for female patients with conditions relating to childbearing and general women's health and for newborns. In addition to these major responsibilities, the Unit Clerk/Scrub Technician may be assigned other duties from time to time. Employees are responsible for completion of unit competency assessments, annual safety reviews, CPR and renewal of certifications (when applicable) by maintaining continuing education units as required by hospital policy.
Qualifications
Scrub technician experience. Acute care experience within the last two years. Nurse assistants/unit clerks without acute care experience within the last two years will be considered on an individual basis. Effective verbal and written communication skills in English. Maintains effective working relationships with co-workers and medical staff. Relates with patients/visitors empathetically and tactfully. Reacts calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Demonstrates working knowledge of hospital safety policies and health standards. Ability to follow written and oral instructions in exact detail. Basic knowledge of computer, copy machine, and fax. Demonstrated surgical techniques. Ability to maintain good aseptic technique Approved health care provider CPR certificate more
