We are currently looking for a Senior Underwriting Specialist for our Underwriting Team. This position requires a strong technical background and prior field or production underwriting experience. As a Senior Underwriting Specialist, you will be responsible for producing profitable new business through evaluating effective risk selection, applying sound underwriting principles and providing excellent customer service to key commercial agency partners. As a Senior Underwriting Specialist with Indiana Farmers Insurance, you will help drive informed decision making in support of our vision.

Responsibilities in this job include but are not limited to:

• Effectively analyzing, selecting and pricing larger and more complex risks according to designated authority and company guidelines
• Through frequent agency contact and/or visitation, developing strong business relationships with assigned agencies that will foster growth and retention of profitable business
• Delivering excellent, responsive, customer service while acting as a company representative to our present and prospective policyholders
• Providing information and education to agents on new products, services and any company changes
• Actively soliciting industry information regarding additional products or pricing tools that will improve our competitive position in the market
• Keeping abreast of changes in the industry and pursuing continuing education

Important skills and abilities include:

• Effective communication skills (both listening and speaking, verbal and written)
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage confidential information
• Excellent problem solver with effective decision-making skills
• Thorough, detail-oriented and highly organized
• Excellent time management skills, able to meet deadlines and has a strong sense of urgency
• Ability to work independently and remain self-motivated
• Strong automation/technology skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office

Qualifications include:

• College degree or related work experience, preferred
• Seven years of previous experience in a similar environment, required
• At least three years of previous field or production underwriting experience
• CPCU designation and/or additional insurance-related coursework, preferred
• Significant experience evaluating and pricing business
